A nod to Ryan Delaire

Hate to be a wet blanket, but Delaire was over-pursuing all game. There were many times that we lost contain because of how wide he was coming around the tackle trying to sneak around behind Wilson. It's a problem that you see a lot with speed rushers. When you're tasked with holding up your side of the defensive line, you can't run so far upfield that the QB has a clear running lane or a clear passing lane. I'm sure the coaches are going to work with him on his hands, because it's usually the kind of thing you see with DE that aren't comfortable working inside of tackles. If you go around the corner, you better make sure you get there to make the play. If you don't, you've just boned your entire defense.

He didn't have a bad game, but it's certainly not one worth praising him over.

LOL

i dont disagree, but since this is a Delaire thread I will point out that one of KK's sacks was because Delaire beat his man and got the pressure and Wilson had to step up to KK

I came into this thread specifically to mention this.

That last big sack by Short owed a lot to Delaire.

NFL.com has him listed at 254 lbs, but his speed looks like that of a player 30 lbs lighter.

There was one play in the game where Lynch juked him out, and Delaire somehow caught immediately back up to make the tackle after having all of his momentum going the opposite direction. Lynch wasn't shaking and baking either, after his initial cut past Delaire, it was all straight-line speed. I should've been pissed that we gave up a 10'ish yard run, but my mind was blown over the physics of that situation. Heheh.

If this team keeps finding players like this, well...I hope y'all are ready for a Dynasty. :D

He lost contain and over pursued a few times, but that's to be expected from a rookie.  I can't wait to see what he turns into in the NFL,I think we found a good one.

to me though, I was pleasantly surprised with Ealy who had a really good game.  Still don't know if he'll ever be the guy we want him to be, but for the first time this season, he flashed some real promise.

Ealy could easily replace CJ.

I hate to say it, but Big$$ is going to be expendable real soon if Delaire keeps his play up.

Looking at CJ's effort the past two seasons, Ealy isn't far behind at 1/10th of the cost. Hate to say it, but there is little use on this team for a 10+ million dollar player who is getting outplayed by basically every defensive player on the roster besides Roman Harper.

CYa CJ.

If there is anyone we should talk about on the d-line it should be KK. Besides cam there's a case to be made he has been team MVP so far. He is playing lights out. At the same time has anyonenoticed how quiet star has been?  Hopefully he is just getting his feet back but I've rarely even seen him in the play

Star will never be a flashy player, he does the Dirty work but he does it really well. It wont leap out watching the game from home or the stands.

This.  Everyone once in awhile he gets a big tackle in the backfield or something, but most of the time he eats blocks and forces the ballcarrier right into Keuchly's arms.

I highly suggest that everyone that agrees with Adb6368 go back & watch the game again or the defensive clips. No need for deep film study. And pay close attention to that small tangle of players in front of Wilson. Close attention! You will find Star (or Dwan Edwards) there. Star is what is called the 'space eater' & he is often double teamed. He puts up a wall at the front of the pocket & pushes it backwards. Every QB wants to step up to throw & he disrupts that. He's the cog that makes it possible for the other 3 on the line to make their terrific plays. He's the Ryan Kalil of the defense (yes our base is a 4-3 but he is our 'nose tackle' & we don't usually play vanilla D). Like Kalil, you won't hear his name often but he is always there. Wilson ran down the middle one time in the 1st qtr. ONE time. No one could ask for better play or production from the middle of your d-line. The announcers even said once in the 4th qtr that without Star playing as good as he is, none of the other players would be able to do what they do.

Seriously, like a few others said, the holds were terrible this game.  I knew Seattle has been holding all year, they have no choice with that offensive line, but the no-calls were ridiculous.  I mean I seen jersey grabbing going on.  NFL loves Wilson though so not surprised.

The Fresh Prince!

More like the 'Flesh Prince'.

Anyone who wants to downgrade his play for over pursuit should keep in mind that he's an UDFA out of Towson. You can teach him how to slow down and see the play better, but you can't teach speed and desire. He's raw but so were Norman and Cam when they got here.
