Greatest win in Panthers history?

The Panthers historian SMF is going to give you the Top 10 regular season wins list:

1. 1996 win over Pittsburgh to win the NFC West with Chad Cota pick in the end zone on the last play of the game

2. 2013 win over New Orleans

3. 2003 win over Tampa Bay in Tampa Bay when Kris Jenkins blocked an extra point to force overtime

4. 1995 win over San Francisco in San Francisco

5. 2003 win over Indianapolis (most similar win to today's)

6. 2015 win over Seattle

7. 2013 win over New England

8. 2003 win over Tampa Bay here in Charlotte (noticing a trend with these 2003 games? You guys that are too young or too new to Panther fandom need to pirate these Cardiac Cats games from 2003 nearly every week had the excitement of today not even counting the playoffs.)

9. 2013 win over San Francisco

10. 2008 win over San Diego

disappointed in you. You have all those Tampa games but don't have the birth of double trouble in 2008?  Two 9-3 teams I believe fighting for the division and our backs go for almost 300.

Top 5 definitely, but Dallas playoff of '96 in Charlotte is still my #1. Yeah, I been with the Panthers from day ONE!!!

Lamar Lathon states "Now you know where Charlotte, NC is" as the players run around the field slapping fans hands. I believe that is the game Michael Irving had his orbital bone fractured.

Bears playoff game will be #1 for me until we win the SB as I was tricked into going to a house party for the game not knowing if was a Bears party with 20+ Bears fans and no other Panthers fans.

X-Clown #2, I remember running around my couch in circles after that one (actually chased my dog around the couch today too after the win yelling "the panthers won!", over and over while doing so)

But this definitely is top 10 boarder line top 5, that was a real fun win today

The Monday Night one? That's the drunkest I've ever gotten at a game so that one has a mental asterisk.

Apologies, but as a pretty new Panthers fan, can someone explain to me what X-Clown was or give a link?  I feel terribly ashamed of my lack of Panther's history knowledge!

x-clown is the name of a play that was used where Steve Smith caught the winning touchdown pass in overtime against the Rams in 2003.

it's referring to what is considered by some to be one of the best NFL games of all times, playoff game against the st louis rams in st. louis against the greatest show on turf. the winner got to go on to the NFCCG. this is how the game ended...

as far as this game is concerned...it all depends on what happens next, imo.

there is an old quote in music by art tatum (tho some attribute it to miles davis who said it also, but tatum said it first), "There's no such thing as a wrong note in music. It all depends on how you resolve it."

now we didn't hit a wrong note or do anything wrong. this was a huge success. but i think we saw something special in that 4th quarter comeback that we hadn't seen before. it seemed like a light switch came on. this was a big game, to be sure, but what would make this the most important game ever is what we do next. if that light switch came on and stays on and we dominate at a higher level like we did that 4th quarter, then yes, this was the biggest win ever because we went from a team with potential to be great to a team that is great.

I know at one point somebody had the entire game on YouTube. It's worth watching if you can find it.

That game is an extremely important moment in Panthers history. Those of us who watched it live will certainly never forget it.

    • Soooo many bad turnovers again. Luckily Martin played well.
    • Yes. Cade 100% tripped and pitched it to Mafah.  That’s not in dispute.  We agree on that.  Mafah got the ball, fell to the ground and then attempted to complete the rest of the play….which was the lateral to the WR on the end around.  You are calling the lateral from Mafah to the end around WR the ball popping up.   It was whistled dead.   Then they ran another play.  the review then awarded the ball to SC after we ran another play for what happened after a play was whistled dead.   How does that part work lol?  How do you recover a ball if a play was whistled dead for a downed player prior to a recovery?  I think the refs screwed Clemson twice.   That’s not why they lost.  Please don’t think that is my argument.   They lost because Cade chocked and panicked at the end.  They lost because Sellers should have been put on the ground for a loss countless times and they didn’t.  They lost because our over loyal Dabo wouldn’t bench his favorite hurt RB.    Clemson lost for lots of reasons. SC deserved to win.  Those calls were bad though IMO.  They exist in every game.
    • I can’t recall an NBA team with this many injuries.  It’s getting absurd at this point
