Deactivate DA?

He won two games against the worst team in the league last year and has a terrible track record as a starter. Yes, DA is an above-average backup, but he's not the best in the league. Hell, Hasselbeck probably is.

Maybe. But what does a comparison of DA vs. any other team's backup have to do with anything?  It should only be a comparison of DA and Webb...and frankly, there isn't much of one.

Think of it like car insurance. You don't know if you're going to wreck your car, but do you really consider each day you drive your car and don't crash to be wasted money? DA is our insurance policy, and it's a top of the line policy, unlike Webb, which is the bare minimum required by law policy that won't cover you whatsoever.

I'll look at this objectively

-Deactivating Anderson allows you to open a spot up for somebody else. Wegher. Marlowe, Norwood, an OL or DE, you name it.

-Joe has had proven back-up level success in this league, and plays more like Cam's style.

-Anderson could remain on the team and could play the following week if desired.

-Having "the best back-up QB in teh whoooole wide leeegue!" is something fans of losing teams cling to. Nobody cares how good your back up is. If there's an opportunity to improve the on field play of the team, then take it. We should be trying to win the super bowl, not desperately cling to fan-made trophies that nobody actually cares about

Except Rivera doesn't activate DA just so we can claim we have the best backup. We activate him because he gives us the best chance to win if something were to happen to Cam. He DOES improve the on the field play tremendously over Webb if that were to occur in game. It's risk versus reward and the risk is too great and the reward too little imo.

I made no connection between Rivera's decision making and the shouts of triumphant joy fans here put forth about Anderson being "the best back-up in the whole league!" as if that is something to tout. I was speaking as to why the idea isn't being considered on this board.

I personally would rather improve the team that is actually competing on the field than trying to keep the Huddle Pretend Trophy Squad in tact. Webb has certainly shown he is a strong back-up in this league throughout his career and his ability to reinforce other positions gives him additional value.

One coild argue it's a nominal risk with the possibility of significant gains.

This really isn't that terrible of an idea. People are acting like we would be cutting DA. Webb is a decent backup and if Cam went down he could fill in just fine. It's obviously a gamble, but if Cam goes down against Seattle I think we would probably be screwed anyway so might as well try to utilize another roster spot with the injuries we've had.

I don't see anyone calling it a trophy other than you. Every team needs a good backup QB available. DA is better than Webb. That's all there is to it.
