The problem with the governments argument here is that fantasy football IS NOTGAMBLING.  i went through this when i was arrested for "illegal betting" at the drag strip (along with 17 others.)  It was deemed a contest of SKILL and not gambling and only one of the people involved was found guilty of anything.   fantasy football  uses a persons SKILL to select their team.. its not gambling, and after these two companies team up and spend millions on lawyers, the jury will come to the same conclusion and they will continue to operate without a license.   at which point the government will pass some bs law to regulate them, because, you know... income taxes on billions in profits isnt enough.  fug the government.  Its about time we all stop paying federal taxes and told them all to go fug themselves.

Assuming Fanduel and Draftkings do play fair, I can see why the government want to shut them down as it were.  Every week, some joe schmo is getting rich.  They don't want that kind of freedom going on under their noses.  Not that I'm paranoid or anything about the government.  Yet it is for this reason I've mentioned that everyone know in their gut, one way or the other, fanduel and draftkings will be shut down at some point, or regulated as a gambling service.  So people are trying to win big right now while they exist as they are.

As for the commercials, the biggest reason we hate them is because most of them appear as an infomercial.  I kind of like the funny one with draftkings, the one where the guy is receiving dubious information from his uncle heehee.  Draftkings also once had commercials like this one...

I don't really mind these commercials too much.  Definitely prefer it to the ones they are showing now.  Yet ultimately, they do show them too much.

I just don't get fantasy football.  Much less the idea of making money from it.  It seems to me to be very similar to playing Poker.  You get your hand dealt to a degree, place your "buy in " bet, and then you "show" and either get paid your portion or lose your bet.  I have better things to do with my money.

Gambling is a terrible, destructive addiction.  When someone profiteers off it through insider trading, or some other type of collusion to stack the cards against users, it's got to go.

Disney backed out of their investment.  They still have a partnership in place although they removed a lot of the promotions from ESPN.

Thank you, missed seeing this over the summer.

from NYTimes:

Disney emerged with concerns that it might taint its well-crafted family image by owning a chunk of a company in a business that feels a little too close to gambling, even though it is protected by federal law as a game of skill. “The way they put it to me,” Robins said, “is that this is an adult product that doesn’t necessarily fit in with their brand.”

As discussions over investing in DraftKings were being held, the companies were also working on a deal making DraftKings the exclusive daily sports offering across ESPN’s television and digital outposts.

“We were working hand in hand discussing all types of deals — equity, no equity, one year, multiyear, a whole host of options,” Robins said. “We went back and forth on various structures.”

So while Disney will not pour its money into DraftKings, DraftKings will pay ESPN plenty of money to seed the media giant with its daily games covering various sports.

“In the end, it was better just to deal with ESPN,” Robins said.

(Disney also talked to FanDuel about an equity and sponsorship deal, but that did not work out, King said.)
