Rescuing Sisyphus: how the Panthers can finally defeat the Seahawks

It seems to me that something this epic deserves a John Williams score and Industrial Light and Magic providing the visuals.  I think the single player most representative of Sisyphus is Cam himself, since he's yet to experience victory against Seattle.  I keep debating if Luke is Thanatos or Ares..

I think the Kratos comparison is apt as Kratos is known as the God killer and we play all the big name QBs in the league. Brees, Ryan, Wilson, Rodgers, and Brady (in the SB).

You are lost, SO fugging lost hahaha.

If you are in the NFL, YOU HAVE TALENT. Period.

If Shula draws up a good play to get the receiver open, and Cam throws a catchable ball, it is up to that receiver to execute and make the play. They made it to the pro's for a reason, and sure there may be some inexcusable drops, but if that player DOES THEIR JOB, it doesn't matter who the fug they are or how many drops they have. If you execute, and make the one game winning catch when you are called upon like a Domenik Hixon, you have executed and done your job. Period.

It's seriously so fugging black and white, I can't even believe I have to explain this poo hahaha.

that may be true, but applying that same logic the only thing standing between me and being able to catch a touchdown pass from tom brady would be execution. it's true in a technical sense but it ignores the disparities in talent that make execution possible. to that end i'd say some early criticisms in this thread are on point, that we're gonna have a hard time matching up with these guys.

that's why scheme is so important. as long as a guy's on the field he has to be covered, which is why a decent coordinator can scheme richard sherman out of plays entirely, or isolate players with perceived weaknesses (olsen on chancellor, as has been pointed out elsewhere.)

as stirs mentioned, crossing routes are great when you've got a good offensive line in front of you; if you're facing a stout, aggressive defense sometimes the best thing to do is let your receivers settle into soft spots in the zone and hit them there. it shouldn't be difficult to scheme a few guys open underneath.

btw, credit to @Moorgan for revitalizing the sisyphus myth for me in an awesome blog post a few months back. i tried to find a way to shoehorn a little camus-style french existential philosophy into this post but maybe i'll save that for our first loss when everyone's winding up the nooses

    • I'd give it a C mainly because of Brooks.  If we just didn't have a 2nd I'd argue B to B+ tbh. Brooks was a bad gamble, tho one that could still pay off long term. Yes XL only has 400 yards but... Look who is throwing him the ball. And I think he isn't a "true #1" but he's been able to consistently get open. Hands definitely need to be cleaned up.  But he should end the year with 500-600 yards. Like you said - Sanders looks great.  Get him a better QB / more time with a QB and I think he's gonna impress. We added a couple rotational players on D that have both made plays and show promise for the future from later rounds. So I'd say, Brooks really hurts this drafts grade. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses over the next 3 years. I've overall really liked Morgan's FA acquisitions, so...
    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
    • We're in a great position to see just how big of a misstep it would be, having made so many ourselves
