Josh Norman Moving Around

No it's the way it happens. He free lances a lot which leads to big plays both ways. If you rewatch the Bills play it looks almost exactly like his Pick 6 where he was trying to take the ball away from a WR who wasn't his man...They(and Rivera) stated it several times that the pick 6 he had was not his responsibility but he took advantage of the QB's eyes and made a play.

Not hard to see how that could backfire some times and yes if he is still doing the same thing as 2 years ago it's prevalent, the difference is it's going for a TD our way(which is a pretty damn big difference). Also if Manuel had thrown that short pass it would have been a pick 6 because he's doing the exact same thing this year, which is watching the QB eyes and not the WR (not always but that's how those plays have gone).

So you think opposing QB's have a horrible rating against him because of what? Luck?

Not just this year's crop. Last year's too.

... Not really

uh yea it is.

Norman has been in the doghouse for YEARS and only just got to playing mid-way through last season. He was an overwhelmed fifth round pick rookie on a bad defense and just recently got out. Rivera has been extremely slow to compliment him, despite him off to a record setting year.

Outside of him coming out and directly saying it, I don't know what more you want.

Players take time to develop. Josh played most of his rookie year where he was out of place since the game hadn't slowed down for him. We signed more experienced players in the offseason and he was benched in 2013. To start 2014 they still didn't feel he was ready in week 1 but after that he started playing before getting hurt. After he came back from injury and since then he's been arguably the best cornerback in the league. And Rivera has praised him since then. It's not really that difficult.

It's the NFL, you can't freelance and have a 23.1 passer rating against only giving up 43% of targets.

That's basically saying that JNo watches more tape then any player in the NFL and can freelance because he knows exactly what the qb is going to do before it happens, because if he's just purely out there freelancing he would've given up a ton of big plays already... not like Hopkins and Hurns don't have a ton of receiving yards in the other 3-4 games they've played....

Lol at some of the posters....

1. Jno is the most prepared person in the NFL, even more so then the coaching staff cause he just freelances.

2. Jno is balling out.

Yes he does and it's not hard to find articles discussing it...now 4 games in how much has he done? A hell of a lot less than he used to. But really only the coaches/players know for sure on each play but...
Perhaps you should watch all the videos Rivera puts out...or maybe some people can just pick up on tone or RBTL better because no coach is going to come out and get too specific but with him they have gotten as specific as I've seen.

Norman himself has talked about the doghouse stuff with Rivera(from 2014): http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/carolina-panthers/article9154880.html

If you want to say it’s a doghouse, shoot I was buried in it. Being in it? I was buried underneath it.”

Then they talk about how he stopped free lancing as much in these.

And Rivera the way he is I wouldn't be surprised if Norman is still doing things that bothers him but his play has been so good what is he going to do...

So Jno watches more tape then anyone in the NFL, is more prepared for his opponents then anyone else on the team coaching staff included and is balling out....gotcha...

That's what you just said. Freelancing gets you benched just like it did him last time.

Since he's not being benched and is the top Rated CB in the NFL over the last 12 games he must just be the most prepared person in the stadium.

Reading comprehension isn't your forte and I know you didn't read those articles which shed some light on the discussion but you do know free lancing doesn't mean every play all game right? Tell me you at least know that?

I read perfectly fine, those say he stopped freelancing..

Ie: his play took off when he stopped freelancing...

Didn't say as much, said stopped as in he no longer does it.... you're saying he still does it and it's why he has two pick sixes.

So he's either not freelancing which the articles you posted indicate or he's still freelancing and is getting away with it and making huge impact plays because he's the most prepared person in the stadium.

Basically I'm laughing at anyone saying he's freelancing because you don't get away with it in the NFL and definitely not enough for him to be the top rated CB in the NFL over a 12 game period even if he's only doing it once or twice a game, still doesn't make since because he's only giving up like 40 yards a game and is going against the other teams #1 WR....

You know, Hopkins,  Hurns, Jackson, Coleman this season....who have a combined 125 yards against Jno and 1427 yards in the other games this year.

Norman is a very emotional guy. He got into it a bit with Wilkes a couple of weeks ago. He has to be managed and coached to keep his emotions in check. So Rivera is not going to overly praise him, he is going to try to keep him grounded.

But to describe his play on the field as anything less than spectacular is just flat out wrong.

He hasn't been freelancing, he has been reading and reacting to the QB.

And when he is peeking they are either

A - in a zone defense

B - in off coverage

C - has safety help over the top

He is playing fantastic football right now.  And played fantastic football last season.

Rivera who apparently isnt a big fan of Norman was on the radio the other day talking about how much work Josh Norman has put in after practice and how disciplined he is playing while still making plays.

I am not sure where all this stuff is coming from, but the guy has the best stats in the entire NFL right now.  Not just INTs but also opposing QB rating.

Dude has been lights out for a while.  I hope other teams keep trying him.  I will thank them later for the extra points.

No doubt he is making mistakes, everyone on the team is.  However right now id like him to keep doing whatever it is he his doing.  I just hope he does not lose his man or zone when wilson starts running all over the place.  Let delaire or shaq handle that.

If Luke comes back healthy, our LB corp is going to make RW pay for trying to run.

we have the best sideline-to-sideline group of defenders in the league and now that we have a competent group of D backs, our linebackers can cause havoc on the run game.

After Norman housed two ints on those out routes and after the success they had last year on deep balls against us, I would expect them to try some double moves on Norman and try to catch him being too aggressive.

I think Matt Ryan will do that too. Again, Norman has been jumping those routes, and White got him on one two (?) years ago.

Prediction: We find out that 24>25 and 24 makes sure everyone knows about it.
