Basically, the show hasn't, thus far, lived up to the source material... It isn't even close...

Then you have three kinds of fans... Fans of the show, fans of the comics, and fans of both.

Fans of the show don't really know anything about the whole concept of The Walking Dead, aside from the little nuggets and details they get from the source material. They are used to fluff, and as an eventuality, that fluff has gotten old.

Fans of the comics have higher expectations than the show has been able to deliver on. For one, it is on AMC not HBO, which cripples the brutality and vulgarity that would be in this world, even though it is a fictional setting. The show is also well behind the comics, and at times drags things out (see Governor and Terminus, or anything Beth and Daryl) for no real reason other than to play up to show-only fans.

Fans of both entities just sit back and enjoy what both have to offer, souring equally on either side at times.

PSC is 100% right. I don't know what was more brutal to read, the Red Wedding (probably this) or see/read Glenn's fate play out in the comics.

It isn't about gore. It isn't about the next big bad villain. It is about these characters we have gotten attached to. For comic readers, it is somewhat different of an experience, both because Abraham and Glenn went through different things in the comics and show, and that both these deaths were so long ago.

Show people will be upset about Glenn. Comic people saw it coming (or were ready to protest if it didn't.)

Either way, we're talking about it, which means good things for the show and the comics.

TBQH Negan is probably the most likeable character in the comics. But, people ready to throw their hands up and write him off or the show off won't get to experience that.

Their loss...

I am a fan of both so I try to appreciate the show for what it is and not worrying about what it is not .

This dynamic kind of always plays out like this when a show or movie is based off very popular source material.

I get why hardcore fans of the source can get "emotional" over video adaptations.  See GoT, LoTR, all the teen movies based on YA books....etc.  One day, I hope I can get some anthologies of TWD to read, but I don't have enough time now.

We should just enjoy it for what it is  I finally got around to watching the premiere yesterday.  I assume that's still fair game to talk about.

Personally, not a fan of the episode.  I knew folks would die, figured Glenn would eat it, Abraham surprised me.  I just didn't like the complete lack of hope from Rick.  I guess it's necessary, he has to be broken down completely, again, in order to build himself back up and get better.  I just hated the feeling of agency being stolen from our main characters.  I hated the thing with Carl's hand.  It made me think of my own kid, and made me ill.  I guess I don't like the episode because of how it made me feel.  Good job?

Since we're at rock bottom, let's see how the show is able re-build Rick and form a real counter to the Saviors, who just came across as completely unstoppable.

Man, hubris sucks.  I KNEW that once they promised Hilltop they would take care of the Saviors and rode out immediately that was a bad idea.  I say that as a non-comic reader.  I would like to think I would have been much more thoughtful considering that by this point, only the either extremely lucky or the extremely tough and smart are left in the world.

You walked in talking tough.

But im in meetings all day. Keep this going it's great.

All I did was point out that people were talking out of their asses in a general sense.  You took this personally.  I wonder why.

I was barely involved in the conversation until you got your feelings hurt and quoted me.

Yes. The ability to transport the viewer/reader into the character in such a way is the epitome of good writing.

Cheap strings pulled, but pulled well for the most part.

Yep!  My wife and I were really pissy after the episode, but can't wait for next week's...

omg u do not get to tell me how to react to anything.  gtfo with your tone police bullshit. you don't get to gaslight and then slink away without getting called out for it. i have a strange feeling that anytime anyone points out your arrogance and ignorance you immediately attempt to belittle them by telling them to "grow up" or "just joking" or "it's just a thing"

in fact, i know you do.  i watch you do it all the time in the tinderbox.

take a tip from me and learn to step outside of yourself and realize when you're the one acting like a child

if i weren't here setting fire to the gas you threw, you'd be arguing with Bronn instead of leaning on him for support.  that's how bad i got you.

o i litened up and dropped the caps

This is 100% accurate.
