When did Gary Barnidge become a good TE?

Yeah, we let talent walk. The popular myth by fans.

Doesn't take 8 years to get in the right situation. Try again.

I certainly don't believe that we let talent walk at a greater rate than the rest of the NFL, but I do believe that sometimes players have to find the right environment to thrive.  For example, Wesley Walls did nothing in 5 years with the forty niners, but thrived when he played for us.

The Panthers are bad for letting talent walk. Steve Smith, Julius Peppers, Evan Mathis, DeAngelo Williams, Jon Beason, Mackenzy Bernadeau, Geoff Schwartz, Nick Hayden, Gary Barnidge, Greg Hardy, and Brandon LaFell.

Wow....

So here's your test.  You get to bring all of these guys back, but obviously you have to cut 11 guys on the current 53.  They have to come back with their current salaries and you must keep the cap figure at or below where it is now.  Go

Also the notion that the panthers never gave Barnidge enough opportunity is hilarious. He had five, FIVE years he spent on the roster before the panthers decided to move on. Nobody in this league gets that amount of time on one team to show that they are worthy before getting cut. Keep putting your little spin on it though.

Gary Barnidge has always been a good pass catching TE. Just never used him. He was lucky to get 5 targets in a season from the Panthers under Rivera.

He had 250 yards on 20 targets in 2009 (Olsen averages 140 yards for every 20 targets). He got lost in 2010 during the Clausen debacle. In 2011, he was buried under Olsen and Shockey. In 2012, he was only targeted 6 times and caught them all (1 for a TD). 2013 and 2014 he was #2 to Jordan Cameron. They let Cameron walk because they knew they had Barnidge.

Remember Josh McCown and Gary Barnidge played with each other as reserves for the Panthers in 2008 and 2009.

All are starters in the NFL and making game changing plays for their teams.

Meanwhile the Panthers struggle with DE, WR, #2 TE, and OL. The answers were on the team.

How in the world would you make the salary cap work if Smith, Peppers, Mathis, DeAngelo, Beason, and Hardy were still here?

Meanwhile, the Panthers are 4-0.
