How often do you unplug from work?

I mean completely unplug?

I took Friday off and from Thursday until Sunday night I will not have answered one work email or done anything work-related. It's been nice. Normally I work 10-12 hours a day during the week, and a few hours on the weekends. But also constantly answer work emails, pull articles or do small projects for work, etc. The next four months or so is my busy time of year where 12-15 hour days are the norm with another few hours on the weekends. Besides holidays I'll have very few days during this time that I'll completely shut off work. I'll squeeze in a Saturday morning of fishing every three weeks or so to keep from going completely nuts.

I love what I do but I have to put it away once in a while and recharge my batteries or my wife will kill me in my sleep.   Just wondering how often you guys take some time off from the grind?

nearly every day M-F at 5:30, all weekend long and any time i'm on vacation

i've worked since i was 14, but always told myself i need to make sure to remember that i work to live, not live to work

too many people in our society get consumed with their jobs and work... it's incredibly unhealthy imo

I take the date rape drug every time I leave work. Leave a note by the alarm clock reminding me I have a job.

after having spent years on jobs that were essentially 24/7, i am more than happy to be doing shift work. i come in to whatever situation the previous shift left us (usually a mess) and after that is cleaned up we do our job and then whatever didn't get done gets picked up by the next shift and i go home. the problems at work become someone else's problems when it comes time to go home. i come home and eat, sleep, and live life (wife and kids), not my job.

I make a conscious effort to walk away every couple weekends. Although I work about 50 hours a week, the reality is the City can call me in for an emergency or anytime there is reason to be concerned over a weather/storm event.

But wait... you're a teacher, right? I thought all you teachers only worked about 7 hours a day, get all those teacher work days off, every weekend and 3 months during the summer, a week off during the holidays and spring break, etc.

(sarcasm for those who have no clue....)

I'm in the business of acquiring wealth. Security at the Jacksonville game was wondering why I had a TI-36 in my bag. And I was constantly checking my phone. But I have another year before I can hire a staff. Maybe two years to be safe. After that I'll keep running my company but will probably relax by making adults cry (teaching math).

I'm weird

    • We can't afford to reach for one of the first round QBs this year. I would love for nothing more than Bryce to be the reason we don't even scout the bastards
