So Ginn is on pace for 816/12, have we found our legit no 2?

It's not like when Funchess gets snaps now that they're doubling him or rolling coverage his way, so having Benjamin back drawing double coverage wouldn't really affect anything. Funch just has to improve in a lot of areas.

maybe not, but having two guys that need to be bracketed - olsen and benjamin - on the field at the same time is going to leave funchess on an island a whole lot more than he is now. cam can look off a safety more effectively when the threat of a guy like benjamin is on the field.

By the way, I'd be shocked if Ted Ginn could keep up the pace for 12 TDs.  If I recall correctly, that is more than KB or Olsen had last season...  I'd be thrilled if he could get 8 - 10, assuming Olsen can also get similar numbers.

Depending on injuries and how things shake out for the season, based on the 1st quarter, IF we can keep up the pace for 28 TDs, I'd expect passing TDs to look something like:

Olsen 8

Ginn 8

Cotch 3

Brown 3

Bersin 2

Funchess 2

Other (Tolbert, Dickson...)  2

But, that's a big IF...  28 passing TDs would be HUGE and a lot more than we've had in past seasons.

I will be honest, I'm starting to get a little concerned about Funchess, I'm not going so far as to say he's a bust or anything and yes I realize he's a rookie but other than that one catch he held onto, he's not even flashing and at least showing signs that's he's starting to "get it" with KB's size and Ginn's speed, I like that duo better than KB/Funch

That's usual.  I think because of the success of last years WR's and especially KB for us we have unrealistic expectations for 2nd round WR's.    Your going to have some that hit the ground full speed but mostly it's gonna take a year or 2 or never.

At least he is not a USC WR.  They always bust .....

Steve Smith and Muhsin Muhammad's respective rookie stats. Let the man get a year under his belt before you evaluate him

47 catchescatches, 754 yards, 5 TDs

Keary Colbert's rookie stats.  It goes both ways.

Way too early to draw any conclusions on Funchess, but we can't just assume he can be penciled in as a starter for the foreseeable future.

Are you saying that if he doesn't progress at all he'll be a great #2 across from KB?

absolutely not. But its crazy to expect him to be a polished legit threat after 4 games of spot duty. Hell, KB is not even polished yet, hes as physically gifted as Cam, and even he admits that last year he got by just from being physically superior to everyone covering him

Where did I say that I "expect him to be a polished legit threat after 4 games of spot duty?"

you gotta remember he's only 21 right now. So even next year he'll still be younger than a lot of rookie coming.

He's young, inexperienced and has a lot to learn. He said it himself in the podcast that at Michigan they didn't really teach and that's what he likes about Ricky, that he's out there teaching and showing.

Its gonna take sometime for him to develop.

You do realize that Steve also had 1,431 kick return yards, and average of 25.6 yds per return and 2 KR TDs. The first time he touched the ball in the NFL he made a 99 yd kick return for a touchdown.

Obviously the learning curve between returning kicks and being a productive wide receiver are on different spectrums... but, being the Steve Smith lover I am, I just wanted to point out that he balled out his rookie year and we shouldn't forget that.
