PFF ranks Panthers O-line as 2nd best in the NFL

I don't think Bell was as big a problem last year as people think. The move from Bell to Oher has been maybe a slight upgrade, but not a huge one. It was every bit as much Amini and Chandler last year as it was Bell - or rather the combo of all three starting together. Once Turner, Norwell, and Remmers were inserted into the starting lineup the improvement was near instant.

I really think the struggles of the run game come less from poor blocking and more from defenses stacking the box because we don't have the weapons at WR to scare anyone. If we had a legitimate threat at WR, I can almost guarantee the run game would be more effective than it's been.

This..

Amini Silatolu was our worst O lineman.  I don't care what the grades say, you can see his effect on Cam in games.  He was always getting pushed into Cam.  Moving him off of his spot in passing situation.  Forcing him to throw off his back foot.  It has happened every year, when Amini leaves the game due to injury we suddenly improve.  When Amini didn't do it,  Chandler or Bell would do something bad.

Our run blocking woes are a combination of things.  Our RB scheme is the same as PA so not a lot of pulling or double teams as not to tip our run/pass hands.  We actually run pretty good when we run with guards pulling especially Norwell.  We just don't it a lot.  So so on toss.  I also agree with a WR that scared people we would have a lot more success in the running game.

Oher might be grading out badly by PFF, but he has sure been a major upgrade for us. His run blocking might not be lighting up the field, but in protecting the QB he has been worth the money. And pass protection is what we needed more than anything.

Overall, this current line up on the O-line has been playing better than any of us had a right to expect. Kalil seems to have returned to form and has brought the group together nicely. Oher's protecting well against usually the opponent's best pass rusher, Remmers has been a massive roadblock, Turner is working hard and Norwell looks like an ogre turned loose on a pack of villagers.

There's some depth behind these guys, but man, we're looking so much better than we did last year. Football is won in the trenches and these guys are really doing their job.

Did anybody notice this!

30. Seattle Seahawks (19th)

Pass blocking rank: 29th

Run blocking rank: 28th

Penalties ranks: 24th

Stud: None of the starters have earned a positive grade this year, which is telling. But credit to Drew Nowak (-2.8), who hasn’t looked like a complete liability.

Dud: Unfortunately, Justin Britt (-14.8) hasn’t looked any better at guard than he did at tackle.

Summary: It’s almost like the Seahawks have a contempt for their offensive line. Either that, or they’ve got a little too much confidence in the powers of Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch, because not only have they seemingly turned a blind eye towards the unit, they opted to get rid of its best player (Max Unger) last year.

Important thing to remember:

Most new offensive line combos take a little time to mesh. That's why it's common to see line units start out a little rough but look better as the season goes on.

Ours has a head start this year because we have more continuity than in prior years with only one new starter from the end of last season.

If the pattern of improvement follows, we could be looking pretty good by season's end.

Cams ability to run really skews these numbers. The line cannot run block to save their lives. Either that or Stew and Tolbert are just poo now.

Its a bit of both.

I dont see a reason for keeping a back past age 27 these days...
