Did anybody else see this stat about Seattle's O-Line last night?

Elusive: When your O line doesn't get called for 85% of their blatant holds, trips and face mask penalties. fug the seahawks and their officiating crew. Their offense sucked ass last night.

yea i thought there were quite a few holds, then i started to question if i understood what constitutes a hold. pretty much every time RW does his scramble shindig, his line has to hold to prevent him from getting killed. i guess they didnt call the holds because the game would have been nonstop penalties.

those were two of the better dlines in football, or at least the olines made them look that way. we will slow down seattles pass rush better than the lions, but they will still be tough.

I swear, I saw more holding by Seattle's o-line, than I've seen in our 4 games combined.  I don't know how many times I hollered out "hold!," or "facemask!"

They have three undrafted free agents on their line, that all three played different positions in college (one TE, and the other two DT, I think).  Is that unheard of or what?  I thought last year with Bell, and Chandler was bad.  But good Lord.

sounds quite similar to what we suffered last year before Norwell and Remmers stepped in.  UDFAs and position changes (not to mention the small college hero Silatolu).

Speaking about Seattle, and Russell Wilson.

The guys at First Take (both Stephen A, and Skip) just acknowledged something may of us have known for a long time.

They said, Russell Wilson's not a good pocket QB (skip called him subpar). And it's better to keep him in the pocket, instead of allowing him to run outside where he's much more lethal.

They both acknowledge, Wilson can't see over the defense.

Not to be pessimistic, but we've faced some pretty bad o-lines this year that have neutralized our pass rush.

Houston was missing two starters = 1 dline sack

Saints had injuries and were struggling (6 sacks allowed prior to Carolina) = 0 dline sacks

Bucs oline has struggled (11 sacks allowed prior to Carolina) and has 2 rookies starting = 2 sacks

All of these teams have been bad in pass protection except when facing us....

Hey! but but getting an all world TE that eats up cap space, doesn't block and you don't throw it to is a win right...right?  Seattle is slipping and in more than the obvious ways their o-line did last night.  When you look across that defensive roster, Avril, Chancellor, MeBane, Sherman, Earl, Wagner, KJ...the infighting that's already begun over the dolla's.  To me it looks as if Seattle will be Detroit or Dallas in a few years, a team with a few high paid "superstar" players and not much else.

Whether they got lucky with some of these players or their talent evaluation has just been that good will be the test.  I think they said on the broadcast last night Seattle was starting 24 undrafted players.  Well guess what?  It looked like it.

That's pretty impressive.  Mostly because there are only 22 starters on a football team.

Cam is light years better than Russell Wilson. When Cam scrambles, it's usually through a hole he sees in the defense, or sometimes by shaking off multiple defenders. Wilson hides behind his grabby o line and then runs to the sidelines as fast as he can, holding the ball out to get extra yards.

Wilson may be the only QB in the league more elusive than Cam (Rodgers has to be in the running too).  Watching guys try to tackle Wilson is like watching guys try to tackle Smitty back in the day.  Those guys get small when guys are coming in to tackle, and their so strong if the guy doesn't get them clean they can escape.  The height disadvantage Wilson has in the pocket is an asset when he's scrambling.

Cam has a much bigger tackle radius if you want to call it that.  He can shake would-be tacklers through pure brute strength, but it's harder for him to "get small" on a collapsing pocket and escape that way.

This is very true.  It's actually a pretty big advantage for Wilson in that department, because it allows him to "duck" under pressure up the middle, which usually affords him the ability to either step up and complete a pass afterwards or just run straight forward for an easy first down.  Cam doesn't have that luxury.  When Cam gets pressured up the middle, he usually has to spin out of it.  This can oftentimes cause a deep sack if there's additional pressure coming from an end.
