The Devin Funchess "drop"

Good players will shine in any scheme. Benjamin was great last year and Olsen is there when we need him.

Funchess is not reliable neither is Corey Brown. Bersin has very limited upside but he at least catches the ball lately.

Funchess is not reliable compared to nine year veteran Greg Olsen and freak of nature Kelvin Benjamin. I'll give you that.

Cam was clearly disappointed in his throw after he made it. Should have placed the ball better for the rook. Funch could have done better as well.

Learning moment for both. Hope they give this play a go down the line again, as Funch easily won on that route and had good position.

I will speculate here (have not read the entire thread, so sorry if it repeats an idea)

1. Yes the ball was behind him.  Funchess could have had it, but I would not call it a drop.  Slanting into the heart of the LBs and DBs on the goal line is tough enough--try doing it running with your eyes totally behind you knowing every eye in the stadium is fixed on that object coming toward you at 60 mph.

2.  Funchess did a terrible job of getting off the LOS and creating separation. I think the LOS and separation out of the cut are the 2 things holding him back.

3.  Even though Dickson was open, I think Cam was (possibly directed to do so) intentionally trying to give Funchess a TD to boost confidence.  It was not at a point in the game where we were on the ropes--we had a comfortable lead.

I have been trying to get am answer to a question but I can't start a new thread for some reason, guess I need to be around for a while first.

Anyway, why don't we throw the quick out to Brown or Ginn like we used to to Smith?  I noticed the corners were playing off Ginn several yards.  Seems like an easy 5 yards, could be a good way to generate a run game through the pass.

Sometimes I feel like I'm taking crazy pills around here.

Anyone who doesn't admit that was a bad throw is a BCJS.  That was a bad throw.  No, the safety is not a factor.  QBs hit that throw between the numbers all the time and receivers don't get touched.

Cam is in the MVP discussion.  Cam made a bad throw.  It happens.  Arguing against such things and deflecting all blame from Cam invalidates every other post you make.  Reminds me back in the day when people tried to claim Clausen hit Stewie "in stride" with a "perfect" pass down the sideline when the video showed Stew had to turn completely around and catch it like it was a punt but he was so wide open he scored anyway.  Saints defense sucked back then too.

That's when people believe Clausen was the answer. lol

If the ball hits you where that pass hits you, you have to catch it. Slightly behind, but both hands were able to be on that ball. At the NFL level, receivers make that catch ALL the time. He's a rookie who has seen limited snaps and fewer targets. Drops are to be expected. Saying it was a "bad" throw Is patently absurd.

This should be a TD.

No.  Not when his arms are extended behind him and the defender runs into his arms just as the ball arrives.  It's one thing to hold on when your body gets hit right as the ball arrives, but entirely another to hold on when your outstreched arms are hit while youre trying to secure the ball.  Only the best of the best make those catches.
