The Devin Funchess "drop"

Funchess is his first read and is also wide open with inside leverage, no reason to come off him.  Dickson has a player underneath him that is obscured in your shot, he's recovered in the shot I've attached.

I watched it slow motion. Thats an easy pitch and catch to Dickson. That guy is still beat

If Dickson doesn't drop it, which he has done plenty of, and if the guy doesn't pull Norman and snatch it out the air it still wouldn't matter because Cam's first read was wide open.

Situational football. TD Sr. had just picked off Crabbey at the Bucs own 29 yard line with 6:56 left in the game. We chewed 2:30 off the clock already up 17 points when this play happened. This was about getting Funchess a red zone look, not running up the score. If he catches it, great. If not, kick a FG and go up by 20 so the Bucs have to score 3 touchdowns in 4 minutes to beat us.

The throw was where it had to be.  Cam was protecting Funch from a taking a huge hit from the closing defender.  If that ball would've been out front, Funch would've taken a massive hit.  Good QBs makes those types of throws to protect their receivers from those types of situations all the time.

I agree with the original poster that this play was drawn up from the start to try to throw Funch a bone and boost his confidence, it just didn't work out that way.

Technically if Cam had dropped and tried to go to Dickson then Conte wouldve broke that direction. Still images can be really deceiving.

I do think we were probably trying to get him into the endzone though. He shouldve had that one.

Exactly. Conte already saw Cam was looking to his left. He was in position to cover a Dickson target if Cam were to look there. He played a spectacular game.

Based on this picture.  Conti is moving his right following Cams eyes.  There is no way in a 100 time will Conti remote makes a play on Dickson if Cam turns and throw it to Dickson.

NO ONE CHANCE.

I had to listen to the game and the announcers said it was a perfectly throw ball.

Funchess should have made the catch, but Cam could have placed the ball better. It was a tad low and behind Funchess. If Cam had led Funch, it would have been an easy pitch and catch TD.

It was looking and behind because if Cam led him and Funchess didn't catch iit,  it would have been intercepted.

it was a quick drop. If Cam starts playing the eyes game then the play is ruined. Additionally, Cam had already brought his arm back to throw the ball before Dickson came away from his man.
