Unpopular question, perhaps a stupid thought, but...

I don't think you read my original post.  I was talking about how Gettleman played the dice and went with only KB and a rag tag group of 3/4/5 receivers and a rookie.  All of the ones I mentioned were available in FA and should have been brought in for a look and possibly signed.   We should have went into the year with KB/#2 vet signed/Funchess (or another rookie)/Ginn/Brown/Cotchery.    By the time KB was hurt, all the options that we should have looked into, were gone.  He didn't prepare, and it bite us in the ass.

Fair enough, but I think they were treating Ginn as that Vet #2 guy you were talking about from the get-go which is why they were so less panicked about getting another WR than everyone else. From all reports, it seemed like Ginn had the #2 spot locked up in training camp until Funchess came into his own with Brown and Cotch splitting time at 3 in the slot.

There's also the possibility that they kicked the tires on one or most of the guys you listed but a deal couldn't be struck due to Gettleman not overpaying for guys like them. If you will remember it came out the offseason afterwards that Jacoby Jones came into visit the Panthers and was deciding on them and the Ravens the year he signed with the Ravens and they won the Super Bowl.

Ginn had it locked up because of how terrible his competition is.  He's a 3/4 on any other team in this league.   Funchess was supposed to be the #2 here but he got hurt and isn't up to speed.   And in this day and age, you usually hear about people showing up for visits.  The guy played dice and lost, that's all there is to it.

Counter argument:

He didn't lose because we haven't lost yet. Could the WR play better? Absolutely. Is it a weakness? of Course. Is it the reason we have lost games so far? Nope, because we haven't lost yet we're 4-0 and everything is amazing and I can't hear you lalalalalala
