Should the Panthers make any moves over the bye week?

This is some homer-esque bullpoo. You do understand the lack of WR depth in our offense right? As soon as we play a legit #1 corner in Seattle everyone is going to witness how much of an issue this is going to be to overcome if we aspire to get a lombardi. I'm not saying that our D can't win this next game in Seattle; Or even that we can't pass on Seattle. Rather, having someone that doesn't demand double coverage aside from a tight end is going to make point scoring against better defenses an issue. We're going to have 8 in the box all game and a tough time running the ball. Hopefully our defense keeps putting our offense in these great positions, but J-no shouldn't be able to put up touchdowns on a consistent basis like this. Hell, I'm for it, but the lack of quarterback talent has padded his stats and how formidable of a corner he is. Given, he is clearly clutch. But, he still has a few things to prove down the stretch. If we get a legitimate wide receiver next to Ginn this team becomes scary. I like the idea of Boldin. I would even like the idea of TO, despite being 41, just because of how big of a body and how consistent his hands are. Philly is a quality backup for Ginn. Bersin is a great rotational player that still has room for improvement. I actually like all of our receivers sans Norwood (I haven't seen enough to make an accurate opinion about his play and fit for this team), but if we want a superbowl, we should definitely make a move for this offense. A WR would be given the time to get caught up during the bye week. Addressing the upcoming four games, teams would have just one more thing to prepare for.

Terrell Owens?

Wow.

A big possession receiver would do a lot for this squad. I was merely using TO as an example wouldn't be Gettleman's style. You can't undermine an argument with a rhetorical question and a word emphasizing disbelief. If Cam was given a legitimate weapon, we could really do something special this year.

I've got to disagree here. Adding in a first class wide receiver just so Richard Sherman and Co. have someone to play with is just patently stupid. They'll shut that guy down, too. Instead, keep running Ginn and Brown on go routes until either the Legion of Boom's legs fall off or they quit covering them.

Your assertion also works on the idea that there's a great, unpicked WR out there somewhere that we can just call and have him come over to play. Guess what? There isn't! If there was, we'd either have that player or the frikkin' Ravens, Jags, Vikings, Eagles, Chiefs, Cowboys or Browns would have grabbed him. Don't even suggest Hicks... that car has been on the used lot for a long time with Sale signs all over it... that just screams lemon.

TO is, was and forever will be locker room poison and when he plays, it just takes a mean look from a safety to make him develop alligator arms and a yellow streak up his back. He's year's away from those highlight reals. Boldin is going to be Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay in Frisco, they are in bad straights there, but they aren't giving up one of their stars who hasn't been a locker room distraction.

Lastly, let's face it, it's not a pretty truth, but it is the truth just the same, Cam's greatest game strength isn't his ability to get the ball consistently to wide receivers. He's not Peyton, Brady, Rodgers, Brees or even Ryan who can thread a needle to get the ball to a star wide receiver. What he is is a constant threat to run, a constant threat in the read option, a legendary mobile quarterback and someone who benefits greatly from a strong run/play action pass game and one helluva a defense. Gettleman's got him covered for that.

Khyber addressed the other fallacies.

Fair enough. I'll eat some humble pie. I just wish Gettleman could pull a rabbit out of his ass for the receiving core as well as he has for the D-line. Given, his plan was mildly shattered with a season-ending injury to KB. However, Cam's first year, with Smith, Shockey, and Olsen undoubtably portrayed how great of a passing attack he can have with a solid line. Now that he has that to a serviceable extent, a legit #1 threat would be amazing for this team. But, as you said, and as easy as it is for me to believe as well, there's likely no diamonds in the rough at this point.

Fire shula.. for a team that wants to run the ball its not good. Stewart runs better from the eye formation, then every once in a while we run mis direction run for huge gain but never go back to it. Just like that drag route to ginn yesterday with his speed thats a automatic yac, bothe i saw us do this mysterious drag route has been td's ginn this week and last week it was olsen .

There aren't likely any "rabbits" out on the scrap heap that are any better than what we already have.

The currently unemployed pretty much all fall under one of two categories: "used to be good but not anymore" or "haven't proven worthy of a roster spot".

Guy like that are okay to sign if you need to fill a spot adue to injury, but that's generally about it.

Gettleman showed you last week how quickly he moves when he sees an area of need.

What does that tell you about the WR position?

I think most people realize overall Dave is a defensive minded guy...

which his tenure overall would show a slant to IMO.

I think a lot of WR lacking teams are kicking themselves for not bringing in James Jones.  I realize Rodgers is throwing him the ball but it is clear he can play... 13th in yards and 1st in TDs.

Easily wr, everyones content now because we are 4-0 but that shouldn't be a excuse on not trying to find ways to get better, that's the difference between playoffs teams and superbowl wining teams.

At least kick the tires on some guys, def would take a look at boldin and see if the 49ers are looking to trade.other then that get healthy, and bench harper

    • It's a decent vid with compelling reasons for his opinion. But, my thing is is that you simply can't draft McMillan thinking he is a surefire WR1. There are questions. His 40---rightly or wrongly---will play a part. I'd think that his splits (which will speak more to his game translating to the pros in my mind) are more important.  As much as you're trying to sell us that McMillan is a don't-overthink-it-type-of-player, I wouldn't say that's the case. Workouts will play a part in all of this.  At this point, I like the thought of Tetairoa. That's as much as I can give you right now.
    • If Canales has helped Bryce a “poo ton” and this is what we have then what’s the fuging point? And the offense wasn’t humming with Dalton in there either, except against the raiders who’ll likely be firing their coach after this season.  XL is probably the fourth best looking receiving option on the team right now behind thielen, Coker, and sanders. I don’t think anyone would disagree with that. Who cares about total receiving yards when everyone else has missed time and there’s like 180 yards of receiving a game to go around   and lmao they were “believing” shut the fug up. They lost and for the most part those games were all the defense shutting down the other team. The chiefs turned around and gave up an actual impressive stat line to Aiden O’Connell and I not even the most delusional raiders fans think that means anything. Bryce did nothing against the eagles, the Bucs are a mash unit, and any one of us could have done that Bryce did against the giants and saints.  And as far as who they’d get, they didn’t have any trouble hiring the guy you’re tripping over yourself to defend. They also could have hired Dan Quinn, who’s actually succeeding with a young qb.  And people are acting like the risk of getting paid for not working for five years is a negative. Canales is going to spend the next half a decade getting paid to watch porn in his Bible camp office.
    • the Dallas game definitely quelled the hype. his biggest issue will always be his size, and that shows when he gets sacked. he's simply not big or strong enough to protect the ball. even in the KC game, he fumbled it on a basic sack and thank god icky landed on it. INT's are going to happen, most fans don't understand that tipped balls and wrong routes account for most interceptions. but the wet-bar-of-soap type fumbles upon contact are a huge reg flag. the common theme with players like Darnold and Mayfield who previously played for us and are now excelling makes me want to practice patience more when it comes to the QB position. I think Bryce bought himself another season, perhaps with more weapons. I do like the idea of adding a QB whether that's a FA or mid round rookie. if the same mistakes occur next season and we see no further growth or most importantly, wins, then it will be time to move on. just a quick reminder though, football is not an individual sport. QB is just one position, albeit the most important.
