Bersin four catches for 54 yds

Yea..happy for him...as it's been said he's honestly a better Cotchery and I would use him for those possesion/move the chains type of plays.

And then try to use opponents lack of respect for him against them as they will not respect him and we can call his number when they put a safety on him like we did today. But yea Cotchery doesn't really need to see the field except in Red Zone opportunities.

They keep throwing bombs to Cotch and Screens to Bersin...just like wut...why you do dat.

i love these threads where some like to push Bersin on other fans. if all Bersin does is catch the ball and move the chains, then how come he was not on the original roster coming out of camp? if that is all Bersin really does, then how come he was not able to win a roster spot on the the team with the worst group of receivers in the league? if Bersin was really that good, then how come he was not picked up by any other teams in the league? Bersin caught one pass last week, and tripped on a big 3rd down late in the game. yes, he had 54 yards today but lets not pretend this is anything major.

all this means now is that some people will continue to post on twitter telling us all how good and valuable bersin is, and how you are an idiot if you criticized Bersin's punt returning job last year. it wasn't his fault that there was no one better on the roster to take over the job. i guess that means Jimmy Clausen deserved no blame for his awful play because it wasn't his fault there was no one better. Byron Bell should not have taken any blame last year, because the team had no one better to do the job. i guess that makes all of us idiots for complaining about Bell (myself included).

in reality, there is a very little chance he would be on this team if he attended literally any other university in the country.

If you fail to see valuable someone like Bersin is right now, I don't know what to tell you. He's reliable. He consistently comes out and makes a play when his number is called. What more do you want from a guy your paying in Juicy Fruit and Big Red?

The 'Wofford conspiracy' is hilarious, as Jerry had almost 20 years prior to Bersin and never felt the need to sign a Wofford player. Bersin is on the roster because he can play in the NFL, even if only for a relatively talent-strapped team like Carolina.

As far as making the opening 53, Bersin and Cotchery occupy a very similar niche and Cotchery's experience gave him the edge. Once Cotchery got hurt, Bersin was called up.  Logical.

As far as your points about Clausen and Bell, it's really not a player's fault if they're expected to do something they simply can't - the blame falls squarely on those who built the roster and those who put them in that position at all. Salary cap is a consideration, but Bell and Clausen are not quality starters and it is not surprising that true NFL talent makes them look bad. This is why Carolina didn't re-sign them, as replacing poor-performing players with better ones (in this case bringing Ginn back to return punts) is what good teams do.

So most people agree that Bersin is reliable, runs good routes, catches pretty much anything thrown to him, and has Cam's trust...but isn't too flashy and is limited in YAC. If I left his name off of that description, you'd think I was talking about Greg Olsen who is unanimously lauded as a beast on here, and rightfully so. Maybe Bersin doesn't do all those things quite to Olsen's level, but the fact that there's so much disdain for Bersin and so much love for Olsen when they're almost carbon copies of one another is crazy. And not because they're both white...

Yes they play different positions, but I'm looking at them strictly as pass-catchers....although Bersin's blocking is respectable as well.
