Really good article by Cian Fahey of Football Outsiders. The conclusion?

Through three weeks of the season, it's hard to find a quarterback who is playing better than Newton. He is comfortably on the level of Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. Brady is outproducing him and Rodgers is still the most talented quarterback in the league playing to a high level, but Newton has been as close to flawless as could be rationally expected. That interception against the Jaguars stands out and he was fortunate to avoid another interception against the Texans, but those are the only two major negatives against him at this point.

Newton has developed into a refined pocket passer with the athleticism to diversify any offense. The Panthers have done an atrocious job of building around him, but his talent as an individual is undeniable.

bold to say he is on Rodgers/Brady level right now, as they seem to make it look effortless.  But he is definitely in a tier higher then most in the NFL right now.

 Atrocious is a strong word and I don't agree with it. They've built some decent pass protection and added two big receivers, one of whom is injured and the other shouldn't be expected to be an instant star.

It's a shame we're not giving Cam what he needs to win. If only we had a guy like Kelvin Benjamin or drafted another tall receiver.

We ARE winning though, and we have gotten him plenty of help.

It is not Gettleman's fault that Benjamin got hurt. It is also not g-man's fault that we had to cut Steve Smith who would have cost 14 million+ dollars against the cap with all of the new superstars we had to sign at the time and now...

(I'm not saying you are blaming Gettleman, but he is in charge)

Imo, Cam is the best all-around athlete in the NFL. Saying that, he is able to make plays and elude defenders, regardless of the situation or who is around him.

i liken his pocket prescience to Roethlesbetger and Rivers, who are basically in that second-tier of QBs. What gives Cam the nod over these two are his rushing ability, because I doubt you see Pit and SD drawing up QB run/option plays as part of the regular playbook. 

I agree Rogers is the #1 QB, head and shoulders above every other QB without a doubt. Brady and Manning are probably my 2nd and 3rd. Cam is solidly in 4th place. 

Wilson fits in there somewhere, it's just on a week to week basis, whereas Big Ben and Philip are truly seasoned and have never been played outside of their respective play books. 

Luck comes in at #9, because he's a turnover machine and has the best offensive weapons of all the other players I mentioned before him.

#10 -13 are Romo, Dalton and Palmer. And that's all I'm gonna list. 

There isn't a QB in the league right now that I'd take over Cam because Cam is just now starting to be fully matured and has that staying power that could give you 10-more years worth of production.

Todd Haley is a "new" coordinator for him in the last 3 years or so and he is always making something out of nothing. So I'm just not sure what that part means. Personally, I'd take Big Ben over Wilson but it's tight. I also wouldn't say Rodgers is THAT much better than Brady. Both are Hall of Famers no doubt. And Manning seems done but has had one of the best careers. So I think you're spot on about all that. Just don't get the Big Ben comment.

I'm sure the new OC has kept what worked for Ben but just added his own fingerprint on the wrinkles taking into account new personnel. Cam and Ben are very similar in their elusiveness and maintaining composure while extending plays.

Stories I remember hearing was that Haley and Ben were not getting along. Bern was uncomfortable and basically lot's of problems in that first year. And then everything clicked and a guy named Antonio Brown literally exploded onto the scene. I'm sure there were other factors too but I'm not a Steelers fan so I don't know. But I do remember the thought being that it was a rocky transition...until it wasn't.
