CJ broke the news of his short term IR while at the same time letting everyone know he is well on the way to opening an uptown restraunt. What are everyones opinions on this? I think it means that either he is ready to hang it up and retire after this years ends and if not that then he has no intention of leaving Charlotte when contract time comes up next year. I don't think we can look that much in to it.  I definitely don't think that it means he wants to hang it up.  Athletes start businesses all the time and, while they may offer their opinions, they aren't running the day-to-day business.  Source: Entourage.

However, I do think that it means he wants to stay in Charlotte after he's done, which is awesome.  Along with the Allen news, I think Charlotte is finally becoming a city that athletes want to play and live in.

Restaurants are horrible investments CJ don't do it!

Too late for that. He bought the building and there's not a lot of options to use that structure as is without some serious remodel construction/demolition. That would cost CJ a metric poo ton more $$ and since it has some historic significance, I'm sure the city council will be breathing down his neck wanting to oversee the concepts and implementations. They sure as hell won't like it being turned into a parking garage, so CJ is probably stuck with the restaurant concept.

Restaurants properly managed can make money. However, the problem most professional athletes who open restaurants and car dealerships run into that bankrupts the business is hiring family and friends to manage the business instead of experienced professionals that know the business. Family and friends don't take it seriously since it's not their money that goes down the drain if the business isn't run responsibly.

I'm all for athletes spending their money however they see fit but restaurants are historically terrible investments, period.  Its his money, but just about anything this side of sending cash to Nigerian princes would have a better long term chance of him ever recouping what hes going to spend.  Hope it works out for him though.
