Bears looking to trade Alshon???

This is an enormos hindsight fallacy. In many regards he had a similar approach to management that Gettleman does, which I'd say you could argue trickles down from the top.

The difference between them is Gettleman's ability to scout talent and manage the financial situation.

I wonder how many championshipless seasons will go by before fans start to realize that building a team for 4-5 years down the road isnt always worth sacrificing being elite now (because, logically, if youre always preparing for the future then the future never comes) The team has realized this and is making moves accordingly, how long will it take do you think for the fans to readjust their mindset?

it's a very simple, very popular rule in the NFL-if youre one or two players away from being a contender now-you make that move.

Oh yeah. Gettleman loves to trade future first round picks and throw blockbuster contracts at players.

in addition to the irony that those are moves you no doubt defended at that time because Hurney had a Panthers logo on his polo it should also be pointed out that these things are both increasing in frequency as time here increases. As they should. Afterall im fairly certainly the argument your camp put forth every offseason was that he didnt do those things because of Hurney blaming.

So which is it? Did he want to make those moves, be just like Hurney, but was handcuffed, or did he not want to do them at all and every time that argument was put forth it was just a stall through the grinder to keep the apologetics going?

You assume wrong.  I gave up on Hurney well before he was fired.  An analysis I did of his draft picks was what soured my opinion of him.

Gettleman is nothing like Hurney.

It's much easier to manage the financial situation when the cap is skyrocketing every year compared to when the cap was stagnating in Hurney's last few years. I do prefer Gettleman over Hurney but I do believe some context is necessary.

We spent a 1st round pick on a WR and then the following year traded up to get another WR in the 2nd round.

And yet still everyone wants to trade for more WR's? Is this position that glamorous to everybody?

Y'all would have absolutely LOVED Matt Millen as a GM.

For me,  it's not about glamor,  it's about running an efficient offense and being able to compete with the elite of the league. Cam,  the O-line and RBs are having to work a whole lot harder because of lack of play makers at the position,  and as a result we are not getting the productivity out of the running or passing game that we could.

I wouldn't give up a king's ransom to anyone,  but fair market value is always on the table.  At this point,  I am just eating my popcorn and watching what Gman  does (if he does anything).

It's even easier when you're not throwing huge money at the wrong players and/or drafting guys who don't produce.

Hurney drafted or acquired Cam, Luke, Kalil, Davis, Olsen and CJ. All six of our captains and the core of the team. Did he make some really bad decisions? Absolutely, but to act like he was a completely inept moron is revisionist history and silly. I'm actually convinced half the fan base thinks Gettleman drafted Luke.

Great idea in a dream world. But the pick we'd have to give up and the ensuing salary he demands wouldn't be worth it. We just invested a 1st and a 2nd in wr's, you can keep throwing picks at wr's because then you become the Colts. A bunch of flashy weapons with no line to protect for them, and no defense to keep the score down when they occasionally struggle.

    • Start with Bryce, this is like his rookie year. The 1st 2 games proved her was wired wrong and it looks like (we hope) he needed a time out to reset and be the player that was drafted. He's still about a year or more away from being a top 15 QB, if the Panther give him another playmaker or 2 (a top WR and a decent TE) and maintain that line. Canales deserves credit as playing that card correctly to motivate (or refocus) his QB for one last shot to decide his and the Panthers immediate future. As a Panther fans we should hope he keeps improving as we invested so much to get him. CJ Stroud will never have a season like he had, even if he stays a top 10 QB. He's got great character so I'm rooting for Bryce to continue on his positive journey. Canales is playing the week to week thing with bryce perfectly. Nothings guaranteed, earn it weekly which builds consistency and consistency is greatness.  Keep the O-line. They've got to extend Brady C, along with Mayes that have a real good 7. Great job Morgan starting with the big guys upfront.  I really hope they draft a DE or OLB in the 1st round. Getting Brown back with A Robinson and what DJ has shown that we can have a decent D-line. Need a CB in the early rounds/ or a time FA to go with Horn.  The future as to next year being good enough to challenge for the division is within reach. Just show progress (win or lose) every week. Kudos to Dan Morgan. Plays GM like a LB. Tackle the problem and move on, don't just hope it works out. Find guys with your playing mentality and work closely with your HC to share a vision. Teamwork starts at the top and flows down.
    • Since we play the Panthers today and tmrw, we will have one gigantic double thread for both games. Today’s game is at 3pm and tmrw is 7pm.    After beating the Rangers and sending the those yankee bastards back to Cary, we get the Champs in the house.  Clean up the defense, no more lazy clears, and score baby score.  LFG CANES!
