Bears looking to trade Alshon???

now two reports; albeit both from ESPN

http://nfltraderumors.co/bears-reportedly-looking-to-make-more-trades/

Dianna Marie Russini of ESPN reports that the Bears are looking to unload other players, who don’t fit their scheme that are holdovers from the previous regime.

Russini doesn’t mention any specific names, but it’s really not a big surprise to hear that they’re looking to continue their rebuilding efforts.

Interestingly enough, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN writes that Chicago should being to listen to trade offers for other notable players like RB Matt Forte and WR Alshon Jeffery, now that the Bears traded away DE Jared Allen.

Both players are scheduled to be free agents after the season, and it’s clear that the Bears won’t be playing for a Super Bowl in 2015.

It might sound somewhat surprising to see someone suggest moving on from a 25-year-old receiver entering his prime. However, Dickerson mentions that there’s no guarantee that Jeffery wants to re-sign with them next year, and overpaying him could actually impact their rebuilding plan in some ways.

The Bears did protect themselves to some degree by using their first-round pick on WR Kevin White and their fourth-round selection on Jeremy Langford.

I doubt the Bears would want to move Alshon.  Trading a guy like Allen makes a ton of sense for them.  He doesn't fit their scheme and they realize they're in rebuilding mode now and you try to get what you can for 33 year old guys who don't fit your scheme when you're in rebuilding mode.

Alshon Jeffrey is a very good 25 year old WR.  He can be a building block for their rebuilding process.

For those saying trading for Jeffrey wouldn't make any sense for us, I say you're crazy.  Again, he's only 25 and a proven NFL performer.  We have a major need at WR with or without a healthy KB.  Adding a guy like Jeffrey would pretty much make us set at WR for the foreseeable future with KB, Jeffrey, and the continued development of Funch and Philly.  We have major needs at LT and DE as well and scratching off one major need would really free us up to attack the remaining ones full steam ahead.  Re-signing Alshon shouldn't be a problem.  We'd have the space to do it and I'm sure Alshon would love to sign long-term with a team that has a great young QB locked up long-term and a fantastic running mate in KB.  The move would make a TON of sense for the Panthers, but not for the Bears.

The problem is Alshon is in contract year and he probably doesn't want to re-sign into a rebuilding gig.   Maybe he's told them and worked with them like Allen did.  Who knows really.  But you are right, we'd be set with WR.  KB may not even be full speed when he comes back, and I hate to be THAT guy, but with injuries like his it isn't always set in stone they come back like they were.  Alshon would add some insurance on top of Funchess/Brown/Ginn.  Now THAT would be a top WR core.

However, hardly ever do things like this happen like we want, but we definitely have a tradition of trading with the Bears.

I mentioned Alshon yesterday in the Jared Allen thread and he's been someone I've thought of as a possible trade target for awhile.

As said in the article the Bears stink and aren't going to compete this season. They may as well go in full tank mode especially with Alshon coming back being no guarantee. Some think with the trade of Marshall they cleared way for Alshon and his contract but by drafting Kevin White I think they could use that money elsewhere.

If the plan is to take a QB 1st overall next season maybe you do pay Alshon so the rook has a vet in Alshon and basically another rookie in White. I think it's worth it to at least check in, would hate to use a high pick on a possible rental but signing Alshon essentially sets us up nicely for the future with 3 big body WR's.

If we could get him for a 4th I would be totally for it.  The only glaring weakness on this team (assuming CJ can come back healthy) is WR.

Alshon is big, has good hands, is from the Carolinas, and wouldn't break the bank to resign.

I know Gettleman has been against trading picks for the most part, and I get it.  But as it pertains to this year... No Balls, No Baby

a 4th? Have you watched him play at all in his career? He's one of the game's best WRs.

The Panthers can afford Alshon.  We are going to have at least $20M to spend this offseason.  Norman is going to get his, but Alshon is probably looking at a $7Mish per year payday.  Still have KB for 2 more years at a reasonable rate.

IMHO, WR is still the one area that could prevent us from being a true contender.  I don't see why Gettleman wouldn't consider

god bless America you people all hate Hurney yet learned nothing from him

No we can't afford Alshon because then we can't afford KB. This isn't madden

7 million??? Maclin got 11 million per year

Dez got 14 a year after a quick google search. Alshon is going to be asking for that or just below that- bank on it.
