*Huddle still bashes Hurney over 2 years after he's fired for his careless spending*

*Huddle obsesses over wanting DG paying top 5 CB money to a CB that has a handful of good games playing zone coverage against backup QBs*

Y'all are acting like Norman is playing press man coverage on an island and shutting down Julio, Dez, AJ Green, etc.

Everybody needs to get over the idea of Norman getting paid during the season. It's not happening. DG isn't gonna go against his word and cave to a player; look at the mess that's put Seattle in. At the end of the year Norman will be offered $7-9m per season again. He'll either accept it or get slapped with a franchise tag and be forced to play out of his mind on during a 2nd straight contract year while Carolina is primed for a SB run.

At that point DG will have squeezed back to back seasons out of Norman's prime and very possibly won a SB. Norman will be entering his 30yo season and no legitimate team is gonna offer him a mega deal. At that point Norman will either accept what DG offers him or cash in big and rot away in Oakland, Tampa Bay, etc.

The days of Carolina throwing out big contracts to every good player on the team are over. Cam & Kuechly are the only locks on this team. Everyone else is expendable. DG is gonna continously build this team starting with the OL & DL. DG will throw big money at the right DE but I wouldn't holds your breath on him giving a mega deal to a CB.

This is what good teams do. Look at NE- they pay Brady & Gronk, everyone else is a resource. Welker, Moss, Revis, Talib, etc; they use them for a year or two then toss them out and let someone else overpay them.

We are gonna keep cutting overpriced veterans (Smith, Williams, etc) and letting overpriced players walk (Hardy). And we're gonna keep winning. Get used to it.

True as some of that may be, there's nothing wrong with wanting to keep a good player in town.

By the way, we may be primarily a zone team but best believe he's been in some man coverage against monsters.

If Norman continues to play on this level we will have to pay him top  corner back money.

I personally  don't predict him to continue on the pace he has been playing. I see him ending the season as a top 10-15 corner. The market is paying big money to CBs so we will have to pay a lot of money to keep him in Carolina. I don't know our salary cap situation for next year but we just extended two of our top players so I wouldn't be suprised if he signs elsewhere.

I believe the smartest way to go is either franchise him or extend him to a 2-3 year deal which should keep him through his prime.

if we could trade him I would because CBs with Normans size  have plenty of value. Considering he shut down Julio Jones twice last year we could get a package of multiple top picks after showing his potential this season.

I do love Norman but Russell Okung will hit the market this year at LT.

I think Oher is good enough and if continues his play we could secure him for 2 more season at a mid level tier possibly.

Or blow our cap money on an Okung type who would command a serious contract.

That would eat Josh Norman money and we may be due to extend Kawann..Star right after. Trai Turner will cost money too.

Norman is 27 years old and while I think he has been incredible we have to let the whole season play out. His demands should be capped and if he exceeds that..There may be no choice but to let him walk.

Norman is playing for a contract and leaving everything on the table... he wants to cash in. So he is Alert out to do whatever it takes to be the best.

Remember he hasn't done this consistently over the last couple of years, his contract is just coming up and he's actually listening to his coach.

So.... let him continue showing us what he's really made of

    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
    • Well, we got our answer on Army today.
    • Not a chance the SEC could compete with the NFL.  In the large cities that are not in the Southeast, (LA, NYC, Chicago, SF) College football is an afterthought.
