Shula called a better game today than McDermott

In other words, as many of us have said before, for the Shula offense to "work" the players are not allowed any critical mistakes.

If we have ONE turnover on any of the TD drives yesterday, we score less than 20 points *again* and we lose.  The Shula offense can IN NO WAY recover from that.  Other offenses in the NFL can.  Shula's can't.

In other words, above all else, for Shula's offense to succeed, Cam is required to be *perfect*.

That is hardly the case. He had a very good game yesterday but he was hardly perfect and neither were his receivers.  That old myth of Cam needing to be perfect was actually a comment about the defense and the fact that we couldnt turn over the ball with an interception and still win.  Just like a bunch of other myths like we can't start off fast under Rivera or that Shula is a bad playcaller most knowledgeable posters realize that those were never true and simply just things that if they repeated enough are taken as fact when they arent true.

The reality is that we didnt score on every drive but instead of turnovers we had a few drives killed with penalties and a few of their drives extended with penalties as well.

You might never like Shula and that is your right, but if you want to be credible you need to be able to see the reality of the situation which is that our offense is playing very well considering the injuries to key people and Shula and his coaching staff have done a great job with the players and situation they were handed.

That's pretty much every offense except for New England who is in full FU NFL mode, the Packers with Discount double check Rogers and Arizona with Carson Palmer who is going to destroy pretty much everyone they play this year.  A fumble , pick  at the wrong time and the game is over. Look at the Saints, I think we all will agree Sean Payton is a much better OC than Shula.  McCown threw for 310 (that would be comparable or better to what Brees whould have thrown) but look at the drops and the picks.  It wasn't just the drops and the picks, it was the timing of them. Our offense makes bad plays(bad throws, drops, penalties) at the wrong time.  Our defense gets penalties and the wrong time. How many drives yesterday were extended the last 2 weeks because of really badly timed penalties.

The OC runs the style of offense that the head coach tells him to.  If your coach(Rivera) wants to control the ball(TOP), limit turnovers, and a heavy run game,  the the offensive coordinator follows that plan.   In that type of offense you are going to have to limit your mistakes and be efficient.  You have to win the turnover battle and your not going to get as many possessions as some other offenses.  If you don't like the "style of play"  you should blaming Rivera.

We are averaging 23.4 points per game with Ted Ginn, and Corey Brown as starting wide receivers.  With Kelvin Benjamin last year we averaged 23.4 points per game.  When we had to score we did.  You are talking about if we had one turnover we would have scored less than 20 points again.   The opposite applies, in previous games, if we don't lose a touchdown to a bogus pass interference or drop a wide open touchdown passes we win games handily.

Just yesterday:

Peyton Manning, 1 interception - Denver wins

Carson Palmer, 1 interception - Arizona blowout

Andy Dalton, 1 interception - Cincinnati wins

Andrew Luck, 2 interceptions - Indianapolis wins

Ben Roethlisberger, 1 interception - Pittsburgh wins

Ryan Mallet, 1 interception - Houston wins

Teddy Bridgewater, 1 interception - Minnesota wins

That's 7 times in just *one* weekend.

If Cam had thrown a pick yesterday, do you think we'd have won?  I don't.

Your logic

Cam throws a pick the first 2 weeks and we won.  However that doesn't count.

Cam doesn't throw a pick and we are efficient offensively and defense doesn't show up till the last play (specifically Norman) it basically counts as a loss for Shula.

So I will take your same 7 games and look at them without Shula hate.

Peyton Manning, 1 interception - Denver wins   the team they were playing thew 2 interceptions. BTW they only scored 24 points

Carson Palmer, 1 interception - Arizona blowout   You just gonna ignore that the other team thew  4 picks total and two pick 6's.  Their Defense scored more than the other team. The opposing QB threw for 66 yards.  Kaepernick had 9 completions to his team and 4 to Arizona.  That was worst than Jake "mental breakdown" Delhomme level bad.

Andy Dalton, 1 interception - Cincinnati wins   the team they were playing threw a pick too!!!  How much did they score ?  Oh 28 points, 1 more than us.

Andrew Luck, 2 interceptions - Indianapolis wins   Once again.. the other team(Marriota) threw 2 picks.  Also the offense only scored 28 points

Ben Roethlisberger, 1 interception - Pittsburgh wins   12 points.

Ryan Mallet, 1 interception - Houston wins   Once again.. Same number of picks for the other team.  19 points

Teddy Bridgewater, 1 interception - Minnesota wins   Once again .. Same number of picks.  Only had Bridgewater had 121 yard passing and Offense only scored 24 points.

That's 7 times in just *one* weekend.  That you *tried* to cherry pick to support Shula sucks.

If Cam had thrown a pick yesterday, do you think we'd have won?  I don't.  Who knows?  We were moving the ball easily offensively. Our play style "chosen by the head coach", make these type of games not only possible but the norm.

How about the fact he threw a pick the last 2 weeks and we won.  In fact this is the only game this season he didnt throw a pick and we won them all.

Your whole premise is a crock.  If he had thrown a pick we would have won this as well.

As a Shula-hater, i gotta admit, he's been doing a excellent job this year. If he keeps this up i'm going to be a fan...

Maybe you will figure out your Shula hate was wrong and misplaced and now that he has the O line and some decent talent all of a sudden he is doing a excellent job.  Or just maybe he is growing and improving just like the team.
