Steve Smith being let down by crappy team

Just had another insane game today (13/186/2), and through three games he has 25 receptions for 349 yards and two TDs. He's on pace for 133 receptions, 1,861 yards and 11 touchdowns. That's ridiculous enough on its own, but he's never had consecutive 10-catch games in his career (this is only his eight such game). Now, he's one of just six players with consecutive 10-catch, 150 receiving yard games (and by far the oldest), and one of only three 36-year olds (the other two being Terrell Owens and Jerry Rice) with 10 catch, 150 yard games.

Of course, the elephant in the room is that the Ravens are 0-3 and will probably not make the playoffs. The fact he's still capable of this while being 36 years old and the only viable target on that team is somewhat amazing, though.

ravens have a shot but it will be at a wildcard, with big ben down they can win the next two, they have got to find out how to play defense and find another options other then smith even though he is playing ridiculous right now, i think if the rookie shows up that will give a boost to the team, if they lose the next week there season is over

smith should have went to the patriots when he originally became a free agent, but his vengeance played too big of a role at the time, just logically any fan or player knows NE is the best shot at getting a ring in the modern era

Except Steve is a man of integrity and has respect for the game.

who cares ... steve smith would never have that kind of production here in Carolina under Cam. Our offense isn't built to throw to a single WR 15-20 times a game.

also, steve smith's feisty attitude and his constant demand for the ball might actually make us worse. Part of the reason he was let go.

so tired of this played out excuse, he doesn't demand the ball, do you even watch the ravens games??? they have no one else to throw to except gilmore and max the te's, there run game is stagnant

besides that you are correct on the first part he would not have that type of production,Cam spreads the ball around

    • I think the experts overthink it at times.  I am also not sure they measure things that matter, and if you measure things that don't really matter, it can cause your board to fluctuate--you are creating bias using facts that are assumed to equate to performance.  Football is an emotional game, and if I were a GM, I would measure emotional intelligence.  I would measure (if this can be measured) the speed of conversion from a concept (technical/mechanics) to muscle memory.  I would watch film and time how long it takes a qb to get to their second and third reads--how long does it take an ILB to make the first step and how often do they false step.  How often does a WR bobble a pass vs. clean catches? Examples, but there has to be something we are not measuring that would improve our success rates in drafts.
