Bersin Up; Brandon Williams Gone

which is exactly the issue i have. if Bersin gets a roster spot over two uninown commodities who may actually develop into contributors, then we're making a mistake.

it's possible that we deactivate joe webb but they give him a more prominent role on special teams every week and pulling him out of that only sews more turnover.

The player who's going to be deactivated so Brenton Bersin can play is Jerricho Cotchery.

Brandon Williams probably wasn't going to be active anyway.

It's not the massive shuffle people are making it out to be.

One thing to remember about Bersin.......Cam speaks highly of him.  That must account for something when our franchise QB has a comfort level with a WR.

Voth's article this past week about the possibility of bringing Bersin up was basically nothing but Cam raving about how dependable BB is. It left me wondering a) why he was cut to begin with if our franchise QB wants out there, and b) what use is Cotchery if our "veteran presence" is coming from a WR perennially relegated to the bubble?

I'll take this Huddle moment to point out that the only people who had Cotchery on the bubble are .... Huddle posters.

To me the issue isn't Bersin vs Williams. It's Brockel vs Williams. Brockel, who is a terrible blocker and backup FB and offers nothing at TE and also who never played preseason, gets a spot over Williams who showed some great blocking and catching skills when he played this preseason.

But at last, the legend of Brockel lives on.

It's about not knowing if and when one of the WRs on the 53 is/was going to get hurt and practice squad eligibility. Apparently Cam needs a lot of reps (possibly more reps than most QBs) with a WR to build that QB-WR trust. He doesn't appear to have "instant rapport" with new to our team WRs. So we want to keep WRs he has those reps with and can keep getting reps with. And where does Cam do most of his throwing? In practice.

Bersin is eligible for the practice squad since he had 2 years or less of NFL experience. Cotchery has 11 years of NFL experience, so if we cut Cotchery, he wouldn't be eligible for the practice squad, and he wouldn't be here every week maintaining that connection with Cam. Keeping Cotchery on the 53 and putting Bersin on the practice squad lets them both stay on the same page as Cam. That's my take on why Cotchery made the 53 and Bersin didn't

Now you know better than to be going all logical up in here.

That leaves an open spot on the practice squad. Is Williams eligible if he clears or will they bring someone else in, like Lucas?

I don't believe Williams is, since he had 2 full years with us plus the 2 games this year technically makes him have too much NFL experience to be eligible for the practice squad since the max is 2 years. Might be some wiggle room with the 5 games or less exception, but that's out of my paygrade

The guy that caused an interception last week?  That guy?

I thought you where smarter than that Igo, Yep that guy we traded for and has the least amount of snaps to judge from,

BTW I remeber in the playoffs  sunshine was the main read and failed to make a play that led to a interception.
