That's the cyclical nature of building and rebuilding a franchise.  You just have to learn when to cut the cord and start the transition while keeping it as painless as possible.

Though, Brees is a little bit older than 26 ;)

a lot of people thought the same when panthers parted ways with Steve smith.

Back to Cooks-- after Odell Beckham, he was the player I wanted most out of that draft.  Y'all should be glad I am no GM, even though my mocks over the years prove I would have been better than Hurney.

About the Saints-I heard that this could be Payton's last year, if he makes it through the year.  The GM and owner are jokes too, but the biggest clown in Cirque de New Orleans is Ryan, the defensive coordinator who is oft confused with the ghost of Jerry Garcia.

About rebuilding:  If you stay out of free agency, you should be able to constantly reload through the draft and acquiring undrafted free agents.  Gettlemen's theory seems to be a good one:  Build the roster from the bottom up.  You don't want too many new faces each year, but you want to reload with about 10 new faces each season.  We added 5 draft picks, Coleman, Tillman, Wegher, Norwood, Marlowe, and T. Williams.  That is 11 new faces (a few have been added due to injuries, but that is basically the core).  The quality of these players is how you build the roster without rebuilding the roster.

People seem to forget that Gettlemen has been here for only 3 offseasons, so that means he has replaced about 60% of the roster through this process. Look at the bottom 60% of the roster in 2012 and compare it to today.  Compare practice squads while you are at it.  He has done a great job.

But when you find gems in undrafted free agency (Norwell, Brown, Wegher, Marlowe) and on the benches of other's rosters (Mitchell, Ginn, Coleman, TWilliams, etc) You build because your eye for talent and knowledge of fits is better than your opponents.

So to summarize, you could argue that Rivera is not winning us games, Gettlemen is.  I think we are in good shape and my only concerns about the Panther are the ages of the owner and the GM.

As much crap as we talk about Peyton, how many would take him as an OC over shula?  I know I would.

I agree,

I have tried to defend Shula because people don't give him the same excuse they give Cam---not enough talent around him--but there are times when the play calling is predictable and without strategy, in my novice opinion.

As much as I hate it, Cam needs to run to be effective, and Shula seemed to get that vs. the Texans.  We give Remmers and Oher and our guards credit for stopping Watt and Clowney Sunday, but the play calling froze them a lot.  Many did not seem to realize that.  However, in the grand scheme of things, I want more from the OC--not flashes now and then.   I think we get really frustrated when we do not go for the throat when we could put teams away.
