Playing Panthers Takes a Toll

From ESPN Article: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/13728022/why-saints-qb-drew-brees-get-cut-2016-nfl

Finally some props from Mort and Schefter.  Not bad for a team ESPN has other writers claiming has only benefitted from a soft schedule and no chance to make the playoffs.  Heard on the radio today Allen Robinson got banged up during the Week 1 game (or maybe he just disappeared into Lake Norman).  Also came out yesterday DeAndre Hopkins suffered concussion that magically didn't show up until Wednesday.

Either way, our boys don't play around...

3. Playing Panthers takes a toll

When teams play the Carolina Panthers, one consistent takeaway is that it is always going to be a game that takes a physical toll on players. Such was the case when Texans coach Bill O'Brien, who also demands a physical style of play, conceded that his team was beat up enough when they lost 24-17 to the Panthers, and that several players' workloads would be lightened this week in order to get as many prepared to play Sunday against Tampa Bay.

Even Texans super-stud J.J. Watt got a taste of the Panthers' physical style -- and talent, for that matter. Not only did right tackle Mike Remmers do admirable work against Watt but the reigning defensive player of the year was crushed to the ground by right guard Trai Turner when Cam Newton threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Ted Ginn Jr. That block by Turner on Watt is gettingsome viral video play.

It shouldn't be a surprise that head coach Ron Rivera, a linebacker on the famed 1985 Bears team, has instilled this identity on both sides of the football. When he took the job in 2011, Rivera said the Panthers wanted to be a "physical and attacking" team. It sounded like a cliche, of course, but it's looking like the truth now as the two-time defending NFC South champions take a 2-0 record into an NFC South home game against the Saints, the latest team who could be shortening practices next week.

Speaking of the Texans did Clowney even play on Sunday? I didn't even notice him so either he's a huge bust or Oher has been playing pretty well.

Oher has been doing what we wanted.  He hasn't been spectacular, but he's keeping his guy at bay just long enough in the passing game.

Sadly that is a significant upgrade over Bell.

Yes and he had a decent game. A few tackles for loss I think and 2 or 3 passes deflected.

We are like the old school GD mafia of the NFL.  We beat you and walk out like nothing has happened while you hurt.  Rivera and DG do look like mafia men who knows!

"The word "mafia" originated in Sicily, though its origins are uncertain. TheSicilian adjective mafiusu (in Italian: mafioso), roughly translated, means "swagger," but can also be translated as "boldness, bravado". "

One thing for sure, we have swagger!

Maybe that in theory is why our December record is so good. By the time the end of the year rolls around other teams are already beat up....although we are too our brand of physical just finishes them off.

Just thinking out loud...either way this is a "positive" piece of bulletin board material that might indirectly add more fuel to the fire IMO. Pretty sure they wouldnt ease up if they got wind of that article. Nice find!!

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
