Brees: "Every intention of playing Sunday." Smokescreen or legit?

well that will be dependent on if brees has enough painkillers. considering his coach is sean payton, that's a tall order

Could certainly cause a bit of a ruckus between them.  Could easily see Brees showing up Sunday to a doped up Payton like "WTF!".

Then they both miss the game.

I say he sits, how you can go from "possibly missing a few games to on track to play just days later is beyond me. And even if he plays, why roll out a hobbled and hurt Brees against a top D like ours, but hey, have it your way Payton.

Oh and for some reason it's BBR links I can't paste on my phone for some reason, so that is my source btw..

Personally, I want him to play.

Tough to say that it's a smoke screen. It's not like we can...or would prepare for McCown.

Sure, it's honorable to try to trot out there and play a game of NFL football.  Maybe rally the team into a surprise win?  Realistically, what's going to happen when he gets hit?  You know, they know, we all know that the Panthers will go after Brees.  Possibly try to knock him out.  How does that affect the psychology of the team if your QB get knocked out, versus letting the back up go through the week as the starter and having a few days for the guys to rally around him?  At this point, if Brees is down, writhing in pain and has to come out, as an 0-2 Saints team, how do I get back up?  How amped are the guys going to be at that point?

Hubris...that's useful somewhere...???

Honestly, for his health, Brees needs to sit.  He's got family and life after football to consider.  How much will he help or harm his legacy by playing on Sunday and making his injury worse?

I'd be very careful as the Panthers.  Don't get too cocky, and play the game you intend.  Don't get pulled into the drama here.

The more I read about this, the less it sounds like Brees will play.

He didn't throw at all in Wednesday's practice.

But I have every intention of playing, but we're going to have to take it day to day.

You have to be smart with this, so that's what I'm doing

."

That quote right there makes me think Brees will sit this one out. This isn't some powder puff defense and he knows it.

Check out this piece on NOLA.com. It's a sobering accout on the state of NO.

    • Soooo many bad turnovers again. Luckily Martin played well.
    • Yes. Cade 100% tripped and pitched it to Mafah.  That’s not in dispute.  We agree on that.  Mafah got the ball, fell to the ground and then attempted to complete the rest of the play….which was the lateral to the WR on the end around.  You are calling the lateral from Mafah to the end around WR the ball popping up.   It was whistled dead.   Then they ran another play.  the review then awarded the ball to SC after we ran another play for what happened after a play was whistled dead.   How does that part work lol?  How do you recover a ball if a play was whistled dead for a downed player prior to a recovery?  I think the refs screwed Clemson twice.   That’s not why they lost.  Please don’t think that is my argument.   They lost because Cade chocked and panicked at the end.  They lost because Sellers should have been put on the ground for a loss countless times and they didn’t.  They lost because our over loyal Dabo wouldn’t bench his favorite hurt RB.    Clemson lost for lots of reasons. SC deserved to win.  Those calls were bad though IMO.  They exist in every game.
    • I can’t recall an NBA team with this many injuries.  It’s getting absurd at this point
