Legs talk about AJ Kleins future

If someone wants to give him starting MLB money which I imagine some team will then we can't match that and we have to let him go. He's great and I love having him on the team but that's just a reality of the business. He deserves to play and get paid. We can't offer that. The only thing to do is just be happy for him.

Well yeah. Keep him if you can is what I was saying. Not just unload him for a sixth so you can "get something for him." Sometimes having a player for the last year of their contract is worth more than a late pick.

I think it depends on how bad he wants to be an MLB. I think he could very easily go back to being a semi-starting OLB once Davis retires here, but he'll never be the full time MLB. This could be a Witherspoon type issue where he wants a position we can't give him and wants out. If he's content with a ceiling of being a part time starter on the outside with backup duties in the middle then we should keep him. If not, we need the best value for him. We definitely keep him this season and dangle him over the offseason. If potential trades are more valuable than the comp pick might be then we pull the trigger. In fact I think a trade would be preferable as long as it's not below 4th round, just because of how uncertain the comp pick process is.

Seems like a great guy and knows the game, but he was constantly getting smoked all preseason... there's a reason he was taken out in obvious passing situations against the Texans.

Trade him while his stock is high and his speed flaws are overlooked.

We are having this discussion because he is most likely good enough for some team that is defensively starved.  That means he will cost too much to keep long term.  There are very few Derek Anderson's in the NFL, and even less who would be on their first "decent" contract.

If Mayo doesn't show promise (only the coaches will know this) then you keep him and let him play out his cheap contract.  If  Mayo does, you trade him for assets.

If he stays, Gettleman will get him at a fair price range. If he leaves, I'm sure we won't feel the hit as badly. Gettleman will draft another adequate back up.

As a fan I'd like to see a trade for a player or a pick, Since picks are gold with Gettleman there is no losing in it. He's been solid at drafting in the middle rounds or later rounds. So either way, we'll be fine.

klein is decent in a pinch but he's really not that great. he's a liability in pass protection. we drafted david mayo because gettleman recognized a weakness there; by the end of last year glanton was getting snaps over him and jeremy had him as a projected cut.

unless he has some kind of renaissance (maybe the team plays him at ILB in practice and finds out he's much better and can be keek's backup) i don't see him getting much of a contract here, or anywhere else for that matter.

You people are crazy if you think we'll get any higher than a 4th from AJ.

He is a good player. But we wouldn't get that much.

If we let him walk and he becomes a starter we'll get a third for him.  Why wouldn't someone offer more to ensure they get him?

The guy was a steal three years ago.  He makes plays and has been called numerous times  Kuechly 2.0.  While no one really is Luke. He is a good smart player and clearly a GOOD starter on many teams in this league.   Those that believe less just don't watch enough football.
