Receivers Passed Up For Kony Ealy

If we had taken Jarvis Landry I'd be losing my mind with excitement.

I'm cool with the Ealy pick tho. Not many people had those WRs listed as being a better prospect than him.

I believe we were highly interested in him and probably would have drafted him had Kony not been there

I don't mind taking a DE, since our pass rush has been mediocre to flat out bad since Hardy left and Alexander can't stay on the field. But Ealy was still a reach. There were better DEs on the board, not to mention WRs and OTs which we need just as much. The early returns on Ealy aren't good and I doubt he'll ever justify being picked where he was. But I guess people aren't allowed to do anything but fellate Gettleman here.

Please do point out from the list below of DE's picked *after* Ealy in the 2014 NFL Draft who was more highly regarded than Ealy. (Also some of the DE's listed below are 3-4 DE's which are an entirely different class of animal than a 4-3 DE.)

Scott Crichton - Oregon State - 3rd round (8 games played in for Minnesota, zero games started, 3 tackles, 1 assist, zero sacks)

Kareem Martin - UNC - 3rd round (13 games played in for Arizona, 2 games started, 8 tackles, 1 assist, 1.5 sacks)

Will Clarke - WVU - 3rd round (9 games for Cincinnati, zero games started, 2 tackles, 2 assists, 0.5 sacks)

Cassius Marsh - UCLA - 4th round (7 games for Seattle, zero games started, 1 tackle, 1 assist, 0 sacks)

Larry Webster - Bloomsburgh - 4th round (no games played for Detroit, no games started, zero tackles/assists/sacks)

Taylor Hart - Oregon - 5th round (2 games played for Philadelphia, zero started, 2 tackles, 1 assist, zero sacks)

Aaron Lynch - South Florida - 5th round (18 games played, 4 games started at OLB for San Francisco, 20 tackles, 6 assists, 7 sacks)

Chris Smith - Arkansas - 5th round (9 games played, zero games started for Jacksonville, 8 tackles, 3 assists, 3 sacks)

Ed Stinson - Alabama - 5th round (12 games played, two games started for Arizona, 6 tackles, 4 assists, zero sacks)

Jonathan Newsome - Ball State - 5th round (3 games played, 1 started for Indianapolis, 3 tackles, 2 assists, 1 sack)

Zach Moore - Concordia St. Paul - 6th round (8 games played, 1 started for New England, zero tackles, 4 assists, 0.5 sacks)

I.K. Enemkpali - Louisiana Tech - 6th round (6 games played, zero started for the NY Jets, 2 tackles, 1 assist, zero sacks)

Ben Gardner - Stanford - 7th round (no games played or started for Dallas, no stats, currently not in the league)

The only name above that can arguable be having a more successful career so far in their less than 2 years in the league is Aaron Lynch who plays a totally different position at outside linebacker.

I really don't think you know what you're talking about.  Kony Ealy was very highly rated coming out of Missouri, thought by many to be a 1st round value, and there certainly weren't any "better" prospects at the DE position remaining when he was chosen.

What exactly is Kony Ealy doing to get some of you idiots so riled up? He's playing with a high motor, he's drawing some penalties for being aggressive and making mistakes that any second year player would make. You all sound exactly like the people on here that bemoaned the Charles Johnson pick back around his 2nd-3rd year. Kony Ealy is going to be a baller, and in a year or two, you idiots will have someone new to bitch about, and will say you knew he was awesome all along.

Would I have rather had another WR?  Yeah, I would have.  I was a proponent of double dipping at WR in last year's very deep WR draft.

But, that's crying over spilled milk.  Just gotta hope Ealy develops.  Knowing that Gettleman knew Hardy's future wasn't in Carolina and considering CJ's age, I completely understand the pick.
