A lengthy post I know, but I feel obligated even though it's a little off topic.

Yesterday, my sister and I took my grandparents to their first Panthers game. I really wanted my grandpa to get a feel for a game in person because he loves football and the Panthers and he got me into sports at an early age. My grandfather (73) had knee surgery a couple years ago so if he sits in one place for too long his knee locks up and hurts him a little, so at halftime he asks me to walk to down to the concession area so he could stretch his legs.

When we get down there we run into my grandmother and my sister. They have a box of the freshest BoJangles chicken tenders and a couple of ice cold waters. My grandfather and I share the chicken tenders and small talk for a few minutes. We finished our food and I pulled my phone out to check my fantasy football and texts, as I look up I don't see him anywhere. I then spot him leaning up against the bathroom wall and he's halfway bent over. Almost as if he is stretching, but something wasn't right.

I hurried over to him and asked if he was okay. He's the type of guy that always says "I'm fine, I'm fine", but he said "no, I need you to sit me down, I feel faint". So another gentleman and I sat him down against the wall. He began to sweat even more and turned pale. At this point the rest of my family is over there with me and they are giving him water and talking him. I ran to tell a staff member I needed a medic and then went into the bathroom to get some wet towels. When I came out of the bathroom (which took all of 10 seconds) I could not believe what I saw.

There was a crowd of people around him giving him wet towels, people bringing waters, people asking what they could do. I couldn't believe that there were that many people who cared about a situation in which they A).did not know the person that was in need, B). had no idea what was going on with him but were willing to jump in and help C). Were taking time out of their gameday to go get help, look for staff, look for medics, etc.

Well, we eventually get him in a wheelchair and get him to the small and crowded CMC Healthcare center. He was in there for about 20 minutes and he took a turn for the worse and went unresponsive, only for a few seconds but it was enough to get him on a stretcher. The ladies inside the healthcare center were amazing. The moment he went unresponsive they had the gloves on and they went to work. There was never a moment when I didn't think they had it under control. My only worry was I thought they may not have the tools they needed to help him if it got bad enough, being we were in a stadium care center. He did have to be rushed to CMC and was given a couple EKG's and they chalked it up to heat exhaustion. The first thing he asked me at the hospital was "Did the Panthers win?" He is at home this morning and doing well.

In closing, maybe this was a lengthy post for nothing. Of course, it is the job of paramedics to assist someone in need. And to any good hearted human, it's only morally right to help someone in distress. But in today's society you never know if someone will pass you by on the street when you're helpless. Maybe I don't have that much faith in humanity, but I was in awe that fans just decided to help out the way the did with no second thought, as if it was their own family member. If you are one of the many people who stopped yesterday to help out, thank you so much. My family and I couldn't have tracked down staff, medic and cared for him at the same time. The ladies at the CMC Healthcare center, you didn't miss a beat. Thank you. I feel like there is no other better place to post this than right here on the huddle. Remember, these are the people we sit beside every Sunday, the people we high five, the people we tailgate with. Please continue to take care of each other, because after all, we have the best team in the NFL.

After you told him we were 2-0, did he ask about Cam's completion percentage or if we should trade Star or anything along those lines? Just trying to see if your grandfather is PanthersUnited.

For real though, glad to hear he's doing better and that civilians stepped up to help. Good story. Glad you posted it.

Great story, glad your Grandfather is alright, and it's nice to hear stories like this that restore your faith in humanity.

Heat exhaustion can cause severe complications, especially with the elderly and children. They just can't regulate the extremes in heat, and they said yesterday was the hottest home opener at BoA.

Tell you grandfather to get well soon and Keep Pounding!

The Panthers are without a doubt the best team in the NFC South and they'll prove it late in the season when they sweep the Falcons.

But the only way to be the best team in the NFL is to lift that Lombardi trophy.

Take it from the Patriots, make them watch you lifting it from across the sideline, or on their TV sets depending on whether they survive the AFC title game or not.

But right now, end of week 2, the Patriots are 2-0 and likely favored in just about every game on their schedule all year long.  Until you take it from them, the Belicheats are the best team in the NFL.
