Newton right now

Playing within himself, taking what the defense gives him, and most of all: putting the team on his back. He is absolutely carrying this offense right now (with the help of some above average pass blocking).

Just watched the condensed replay of the game...Cam right now has significant command of this football team...it's the little things like quick views of what he's doing on the sideline coaching the guys up and how he's completely checking out of plays until the play clock is at 2 seconds. Even on that Norwood interception after getting his arm hit, he still put the ball on Norwood in stride, I thought to myself...this right now may be the best Cam Newton we've seen. Not because of his stats obviously, but because of his command of the offense, and the growth in his patience to take it one play at a time to win the game.

All of this is what makes that end zone dive breathtaking in both it's magnificence and it's danger. He has the size to run up the middle. But this whole airborne with absolutely no idea which end is going to come down first needs to be relegated to the running backs.

A couple significant drops, one yielding an interception near the goal line, had a huge impact on two drives early. If these guys can just get a little cleaner catching the on target Newton throws we can really roll. Also not lost on me: we have played terribly against 3-4 defenses traditionally. This was a damn good one. Our offense did very well as a whole against it. Clean up those mental errors by receivers and I think we see some great games this year. Newton is clearly ready.

I thought Cam, and the offense in general looked a little rough at the start.  The Texans defensive line caused a lot of problems with tipped passes.  As the game went along, he and they settled down and played much more efficiently.

I was wondering last night if we should perhaps start next weeks game with the no huddle?  Perhaps it might help us establish a little more rhythm earlier in the game, instead of waiting till the 2nd qtr to come alive.

I see things a little differently. Cam had some nice runs and the 2 TD passes were excellent, but he also missed a lot of throws and was lucky not to throw about 3 picks. Also, a 6'5" QB shouldn't be getting so many passes tipped at the LOS, IMO.

If I was him, I wouldn't be anywhere near satisfied with my performance.

The most impressive thing to me was if you look at the runs he had, I'd guess only about 30% of them did he take a direct hit.  The problem with running QB's in the past has been taking the punishment, but if he is sliding or running out of bounds, and he only really gets hit only 30-35% of his runs (especially with his size) I don't see how it's gonna really affect him until much later in his career.
