Overreaction Monday

This from NFL.com. It's meh. Tepid reaction but that's to be expected at this point:

Carolina Panthers 24, Houston Texans 17

1. Cam Newton is going to have to do this on his own. Outside of a beautiful touch pass bomb to Ted Ginn Jr. and a few fantastic catches by Greg Olsen, the Panthers are 2-0 thanks to a player that does everything but kick the extra points. Newton led the Panthers in rushing with 76 yards on Sunday in the face of an absolutely relentless pass rush.

2. Bill O'Brien is coaching the hell out of this Texans team and it's unfortunate that he won't have the record to show for it. After an overwhelmingly skittish Ryan Mallett tossed the first half away, O'Brien did a nice job of adjusting the game plan and giving him some underneath routes to hit in order to give Mallett his confidence back. In a game where Houston was thoroughly dominated by the Panthers, he had them within 20 yards of overtime.

3. Shaq Thompson isn't lighting up the box score like Luke Kuechly, but he's been a welcome addition to Carolina's linebacking corps. Is there any question that they have the most athletic set of non-rush linebackers in football right now? It may be overlooked, but their ability to control the intermediate portion of the field is winning them games.

-- Conor Orr

That's pretty fair.

I don't think the Eagles, and Seahawks are as bad as their records indicate.

If we can get some consistency from our WR's (and our running game, we can't always expect damn near historic rushing totals from Cam every week to win games) in the coming weeks, we will be right in the mix.

I think the Eagles are. They just got beat by a Cowboys team without Tony Romo, Dez Bryant, Randy Gregory and Greg Hardy that has no runningbacks who can even come close to what Murray did for them last year behind an even better offensive line. And it was in Philly. Bradford is terrible, their o-line is terrible, their D is terrible as always. Chip is going to run himself out of the NFL because of his insane powerplays this offseason.

As for the Seahawks, I don't think they're as bad as their record indicates, but I don't think they're anywhere near as good as they were the past 2 years. Chancellor back could help that but doesn't look like he'll be back any time soon. The Jimmy Graham trade may go down as one of the worst player for player trades in NFL history.

I'll obviously admit that it doesn't look all that great for the Eagles right now, but it's still early, who knows.

As far as Seattle goes, I watched some of the game last night against Green Bay, but haven't really seen anything of Graham. Has he been that bad?

So Atl goes to the top of the list after barely squeaking out wins against terrible defenses, and so-so offenses?  Kind of a double standard isn't it?

Kinda the opposite of us who have squeaked out wwins on good defenses and terrible offenses.

Yet we survive,  and ATL rallies.

Yeah, he has.  Borderline useless so far.

He had a TD week 1 but had boneheaded plays and drops as well which hurt them. And he hasn't been involved in blocking whatsoever, which all of us Panthers fans know (guess Seattle's front office didn't realize it since reports in the offseason when they traded for him were about how he was going to be an every down TE for them and be a main blocker). This week he was completely non-existent. The other TE who always does well against us, Willson, has been better through these 2 games. Meanwhile Lynch hasn't been able to run very well because their interior line sucks without Unger. Just a terrible terrible trade.

Yep, and we get the "I'm doubtful," "our pass rush," "something needs to change," threads, all while putting the Falcons(which isn't a good team) at the top of the NFC...

Add in the fact that Chancellor is holding out and more than like the team is dividing again and its not looking good for the Hawks.

I actually think the Jags have been criminally underrated,  once they get back Julius Thomas that offense could win them a couple games.

I think they might actually have a QB since the 90s. I think we hit them at the right time and they are going to be a sleeper for sure.
