With a guy like Norman, I don't understand why you wouldn't offer him a little more than you were willing to before the season, versus waiting til he gets in the season and now he likely will require even more than you would have paid with that higher offer anyway?

Because the numbers may be way too far off.

I love Josh, and I want him here, but there is more to it than that.  IF he wants top 5 money it's going to be tough to give it to him considering his age, and you do have to consider that.

It's a shame that given Gettleman's stance of no midseason negotiations that this cap space will go unused and the cost of Norman goes up

No it's not, at least not in my opinion.  It gives the agents and players a deadline to get a long term deal in place, or risk another season out there without longterm stability.

Not to mention, the players know that they only need to focus on football during the season, not money.

Norman is playing good.

Our scheme and D has a lot to do with it....Rivera too.  A lot of his almost plays aren't lock down coverage but zone schemes working.

plus our D gives him lots of help not just in pass rush but over the top.

All that said, I'd like to keep him for a good price.  If he wants elite CB money let him walk. Don't need to pay that.

That Rivera scheme and D sure made Cason and White look damn good last year, huh?

I feel that this upcoming offseason will be the year we say by to Kalil, Johnson, Stewart and hello to KK, Star and Norman

I don't know about Kalil and Johnson, I feel like they could possibly take paycuts or get extended to make the deals more reasonable. Stew definitely seems to be on his way out though. Unless he steps up big time over the next 14 games I don't see why we'd keep him.

I seriously believe that if a long term deal isn't hashed out that he gets the tag next year

Heck no.  14 million a year?  You pay that for a man to man elite CB...like a Revis.

Our scheme is huge in this.

Norman looks like a nice player currently. That's it.  You think we would have learned our lesson about paying big money for things that are just good.

Johnson will most likely get extended, as we can't seep to find a consistent pass rush.  Even though he isn't consistent right now, we will probably have to keep him due to the position he plays.  It also helps that he is young still.

Big Money's cap hit this year is 4th in the entire NFL....not good.  Next year it's 15M with a dead hit of 4M.  Since he is only 29, I can most likely see him extended.

Kalil's cap hit next year is 10.3M, which is just too high for a C...IMO.  I can see him cut along with Stew and designating both as June 1's, but their play this year will go a long way toward that.
