Blocked FG's

The pass on third, as well as the FG attempt are signs that we are trying to win games by putting them away. Sometimes those efforts don't work, but everyone used to be on Shula and Rivera for overly conservative calls, You want a team that will bring out the dagger and put an opponent away? Then this is what happens sometimes.

I'd rather see us make the effort to win rather than to just play it safe all the time. Champions play to win, 8-8 teams play not to lose.

So yeah, you throw on third down to keep the march going down the field or to bust open a score. You attempt a 52-yard field goal even though the low trajectory of the kick makes it easier to block. Both moves, even if they didn't work out shows a level of confidence in our team that the coaches haven't shown in a loooong time.

Another year and another terrible ST unit for the Panthers.  Why are we surprised at this?  I can count on like 3 fingers the average/above avg unit we've had in the last 10 years or more.   On the return side, the year with Mark Jones and then two years ago with Ginn, this year is still too early to tell.   On coverage, we've been pretty bad for a while and on FG's we've been barely mediocre.   Gano is just not a good long range kicker, I wouldn't even go for it 50+ with him and then combined with this unit, no sir.

We're looking good on 3 of 4 phases right now.

Nortmann is off to a great start on punting.  He averaged 53.9 yards per punt yesterday.  His 2 game average is 49.4 yards.

We are beating our opponents on punt returns, equal with them on K/O returns, and overall winning Field Position battle in both games.   We're averaging 13.2 yards per punt return vs. 9.4 yards for our opponents.   We're equal with our opponents averaging about 33 yards per K/O return.

If we can deal with this FG issue, ST is looking like a strength, not a weakness.

Enough is enough. After Seattle game, last week against the Jags and now against the Texans

Made a ST change and still? I don't know where to begin with these problems. Is it Geno? The line?

It was Gano, according to Rivera.  He said the blocking was fine, but Gano kicked it too low.

RR: FG block came off Gano’s foot a little low and a bit too hard. Protection was good.
