Damiere Byrd cut from PS: OT Pierce Burton signed to PS

Well they haven't yet, so I'm holding out hope.

 

Byrd has proven that he could run really fast.  Unfortunately, he hasn't proven that he can reliably get open and catch a pass or take a punt back for a big gain.

This is why I always shake my head when people go nuts over a super speed guy with suspect hands/football skills.  I'm sure Usain Bolt could outrun every defensive back in the league, but I'm not signing him to play receiver.

He's proven it as much as our #2 receiver, tbh.

I have no feeelings about Byrd one way or another just saw a series of posts that looked like they were describing Brown.

Byrd basically only played in a couple of games as a receiver, and he absolutely did prove that he could get open. Now what he did in practice may be another story altogether, but we will never know. Jeremy said that he was making an impression with what little reps that he did get. Unfortunately for him, he couldn't handle special teams, and little receivers tend to have to do that to increase their value.

Catching a couple of passes isn't consistently getting open.

He wasn't scaring anybody on the opposing sidelines (on offense or special teams).

As far as scaring anybody,  the only receiver that we have is on IR.  Moreover,  Byrd caught more than a couple of passes,  and likely would have caught more if given the opportunity.  And,  if you don't think that he got open,  that's  you.  I was watching him,  and he did get open.

Well there was a OT just release that was a 6th rounder this year. Plus he has a former teammate on this roster- Tryus Thompson who played LT while Williams manned RT.

Dave needs to give this a this guy a PS spot rather than pierce.

Well, sounds great, except he's injured?  He was waived from the Vikings Injured Reserve.  We need tackle depth NOW, not someone else to sit on the IR.

The Browns aren’t anywhere close to being overburdened with receiving targets.

And if it wasn’t for the money owed to one of them, they might have one fewer as well.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com, some members of the Browns coaching staff “would prefer to move on” from veteran wideout Dwayne Bowe before he plays a game for them.

Yet another guy who was a favorite of the "sign some damn WRs ANY damn WRs" crowd seems to be crashing and burning.

Moral of the story... small fast guy who can't catch punts is expendable. Wish him luck.

Was pulling hard for Byrd. Anytime a local guy from NC/SC has a chance to make our team I like it. The NFL moves in mysterious ways. Hope we re-sign him and give him a second chance at some point.

the way i understand is he had a preseason consussion and the viking IR`ed him in hopes of stashing him. Hes is healed and after a settlement, he's now a heathly FA.

Hes got just what you want in a PS player. Just be humble and willing to drop his lazy label.

Thanks for the info, I hadn't had time to research further.  If this is the case, I hope we'll seriously consider him.
