Norman takes exception with Gruden's MNF comment

Anyone know the number on what it would cost to franchise him? Cuz that's what I think happens next year.

This should give you an idea

NFL Media's Albert Breer collected the estimated tag figures, according to one team's calculations. The below estimates are based on an approximated $143 million salary cap -- $10 million above last season (the league has not yet disseminated to the team's the exact salary cap figures for 2015).

Quarterbacks: $18.51 million
Defensive ends: $14.78 million
Linebacker: $13.17 million
Cornerback: $13.05 million
Offensive line: $12.92 million
Wide Receivers: $12.8 million
Defensive Tackle: $11.17 million
Running Backs: $10.93 million
Safety: $9.6 million
Tight ends: $8.33 million
Kicker/Punter: $4.12 million

anyone want to pay Norman 14 million to play a season?

As I stated in another thread, you have to look at it a little different than most in his situation.

He is our's, we know what we are getting, he is older for a player getting to his second contract, and CB is now an area of strength for the first time in years.

I don't like the idea of paying him 13M + for 1 year, but if you look at it like I do...you will understand why I would be OK with it.

If he is the shutdown corner that he thinks he is, you can let him play out this year, and tag him next year and get two seasons of top 10 CB play for an average of 7.25M per year with no long term deal hanging around a CB that is 29/30 years of age.

No.   In his defense though,  I don't want to pay ANY CB $14M/yr.

I don't think any Qb should average way over $1M a game.             I don't think Suh should have gotten $18M/yr.

He has yet to even put in 1 full season in his career of good CB play.  Gettlemen ain't paying that.

Even if he puts in a full season of legit play....I don't want to pay that.  Gettlemen has put such an investment into our front 7.....I won't endorse any real money into paying a DB.   B/c likely you are throwing money away b/c the DB likely is just a product of what you already have invested in upfront to a large degree.

how are you getting 7 mill a year w/ the tag?  You would be paying closer to 14 a year

I don't want to pay anyone that either.

Not when we have put extreme investments into a front 7.

He wouldn't have "1 year of good CB play" at the end of this season.  IF he is a shutdown corner all season, and keeps out of trouble, that is when I said that he will get the tag....not now.

As to the investment in the front 7, that is true, but you still need to be able to cover to make it far in the playoffs.  Last years SB teams had arguably the best CB's in football last season....

I said an average of 7.25M or so over two seasons.  1.5 this year, and 13 and change next season added together and divided by 2.

gotcha on the math now.  That is nice way to spin the cost to make it not sound as bad....b/c paying him 14m, which we would w/ a tag, I think would turn off a good number of even Norman folks.

I think the Seahawks generally are bad reference b/c their defense is such a unique/rare find over the last 2 years.

We still have 15 games to gain a better idea of what Norman is.  I think it is still an unknown to a degree.  Some don't.

If Norman balls out this year,  then he is going to be paid like a top corner should.  Gettleman may not do it,  but someone will.  If Norman shows more of the same as what he has been showing since October for this entire season,  then I don't see how anyone can genuinely justify him being low-balled. He has got to show consistency.  Consistency equals guaranteed dollars for him, if not in Charlotte, then somewhere over the rainbow.

we are going to need pass rushers very very soon, would not be surprise if that is one of our first couple picks in the draft, i'd prefer we grab a wr in round 2 and 3 and maybe a S or CB in one of those rounds as well. Keeping Norman can help that transition while we try and get our front 7 back to the 2013 status, but at the cost of 13 mil i'm not down with that especially with such a small sample size
