Norman takes exception with Gruden's MNF comment

PFF like any stat is good and bad.

Like the incompletion to the corner of the end zone? Stats wise that counts as a "win" for Norman.  That was horrific CB play.  So bad  they immediately attacked him the next play and got a TD.  Those back to back plays show up on the PFF stat sheet?

There is a little bit similarity of similarity with how he is judged here with how Godfrey was back in the "OMG it is so awesome to finally a have a playmaking Pro Bowl caliber S" era of his career. All focus was on his big plays and all his other things he did were completely and purposefully ignored.  Godfrey was physically the most talented S we had seen but was wildly inconsistent.

I'm not saying Norman is perfect or mistake free but largely his body of work against the Jags was pretty good. He showed above average CB play that day. Whether that carries through the season, I don't know but he is off to a good start.

There is no such thing as a "home town discount". We have to meet his market value to keep him. I could see Gettleman telling him to shop around in free agency but give us a chance to match it. He won't take a discount though. Certainly not 3 mil a year.

I think there is, but its not as much $ as people think.  If a player like Norman is happy with his team and his teammates, he might be willing to take a little less to stay here, say 100 grand or so a year less than what he might want from another team.  If for no other reason than to avoid the hassle of moving and adjusting to another team.  .

I wouldn't even consider 100K a discount. That's just negotiation change on a 10 million deal. If Josh truely wants to stay here he will take whatever offer he gets back to the team and give them a chance to match it. 100K the team will do in a heartbeat because it has very little cap ramifications. GMs often let players test the market hoping they won't see the kind of money they are asking for when they turn down something on the table. Gettleman would come up with 100K if that's what it took.

Josh is playing with fire. Julio is the best WR in the NFL. You shut him down last season when he was hurt and the Falcons sucked. He's healthy this year and Atlanta looks much improved. Careful what you wish for.

But it is clear Norman is out for a payday. Always laughed at everyone saying he's gonna give us a "hometown" discount. He's gonna follow the money because DG won't. And I don't blame him one bit.

you sure about that?

Julio gets hurt every week.  The degree varies.  You never know what level he is playing at week to week b/c of health.

His health will keep him from being a true great.

I agree.    It's why I laugh at the idea of  trying to take most of the credit away from Norman,  last season,  due to JJ being injured.     JJ was injured seemingly most of last season and he is injured this season.

Julio is good, I think he is the 2nd best WR of his draft class,  behind AJ Green.  I'm glad Green is a Bengal and not a Falcon.

yeah, that one was great.

I still think people selective ignore how great the pass rush was LATE in the year and simply want Norman to be this elite CB.  Pass rush was huge in this ATL games especially the 2nd matchup.  Our D and pass rush came on late...which is why even bums like Harper weren't moaned about as much late last year.  He was still bad but we were much more effective up front IMO
