Panthers oline versus J.J.Watt

Have some of you actually seen Watt play?

Suh as dominant as him?  That's laughable.  Suh might be dominant relative to the competition today; Watt is dominant relative to the competition historically.  Big difference.  I'm not saying Watt is going to steamroll our offense and be the sole reason we can't do anything, no defensive player is that good, but his peak is among the greatest of all-time on the defense.  There is no comparison in the league.

Watt will get his.  He almost always does.  We will just have to find ways to overcome it like good teams are supposed to do.

Watt is great player, for sure, but I think his legend has grown bigger than the play on the field.  As the offense we have the upper hand in that we know the play and the defense (yes, Watt included) doesn't.  I do like the idea of "Watt spy," though, when the situation calls for it, e.g., long passing downs.  Other than that, Cam can alleviate the OL's burden by just picking up yards--JUST GET YARDS.  A few yards here and there, and low and behold, instead of 3d and 8, it's 3d and 2, and that helps eliminate a formidable pass rush in Watt and Clowney.

Actually, the best Defensive Linemen are paid to line up against the Left Tackle. If you can't pressure a QB on his blind side, that means you'll get 27 points put on you with ease. Watt gets most of his sacks on the right side. The Texans don't play disciplined football thus they allow Watt to freelance. That's why they always ranked in the 20s defensively. While Watt(1st round pick) lines up against a Right Tackle(3rd rounder), there is a 1st round pick Left tackle taking a break abusing some 3rd round pick DE.

Top defenses in the league like the Bills, Seattle, etc. don't play that game.

The Bills highest paid DE and best pass rusher is Mario Williams and he rushes from the left. Seattle's best DE, Michael Bennett, rushes from the left. The guy accounting for about 15% of our salary cap rushes from the left. Oh and the guy on the other side of Watt isn't some 3rd rounder. It's #1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney.

I've been surprised at the lack of comment on the Huddle in recent days about how thin we are at Oline.  With Williams injured, and Chandler apparently still injured, we are down to 7 healthy linemen.

We have only Scott & Silatolu as backups at the moment, both of whom are guards.  I'm not at all happy about this situation with a team like Houston coming into town which is going to demand so much of our OLine.   It's not like we've got any good backup Oline guys on our PS either.  Foucault and the newly signed center.  UGH.

With Chandler injured, I think Ron was questioned about LT backup, and said they'd move Remmers over there if Oher ever needed to come out.  So then who goes to RT?  Who between Silatolu & Scott are better at tackle?

There's been no prognosis given about Chandler at all, but one would have to hope that our FO is seriously scouring practice squads for someone who could come in in game shape to give us more tackle depth if needed.  If Chandler is not able to play this week, I'd consider his roster spot seriously at risk.

I just really hope and pray our Oline gets through the Houston game with no injuries.
