Stack The Box and Roll Coverage To Greg Olsen.. Because They have No Receivers

Good thing your just a fan because that would probably be the biggest mistake by any GM. Panthers probably will never have the chance to draft two studs like Cam and Luke back to back.

I wanted Luke....90% of this board bashed that thought and claimed me and 3 other posters were idiots.  I didn't buy into the Beason hype video and thought we needed to replace him....lots of hate on that.  Plus Luke would be BPA by far too large of a margin.

I wanted Cam back when most of the board thought that was a crazy reach early on...although many eventually came around on that one.

so yeah, outside of 55... I don't recall any other poster being in BOTH those picks early.  Neither were very popular overall.

As far as my Cam comment....unless a player retires early, all players reach a point IMO where they should be cut.  That's all.   I am a huge Cam fan.  He masks lots and lots of issues that would be more glaring with a mere mortal human.

My point was that it doesn't matter how many TEs are in the game because we have Olsen staying in to block far too often.

what exactly keeps helping Swole Bones to make this roster?  Why don't we have him out there helping block?  We sure don't use hum in the pass game

what defensive front is better we will face this year?   Not sure why you back that up talking about us?

sack numbers also don't tell a full story anyway....lot of that has to do with offensive schemes, who the QB is, the rest of the team, etc.

What opponent has better talent upfront than Watt, Wilfork, Clowney, Cushing etc?

First of all the hope is that Wilfork has one year left which certainly means that his best years are behind him.  Clowney is way overhyped.  He has done very little in his career and is just returning from micro fracture surgery. Color me unimpressed. So we are left with Watt and Cushing. Cushing has only played 22 out of a possible 48 games and has been more hurt than Clowney. So while they may be hyped due to their name, their production has been very underwhelming. So like I said, Watt is the only guy who you have to worry about. As for why bring us up, who do you think our offense practices against all the time? Likely one of the best defensive lines we will face all year. Our own.

We use Olsen to block when we run the ball and when we go to max protect against the blitz. Maybe he blocks because he is one of our best blocking tight ends. Go figure

Hopefully the OL can get a good push early and we unleash JStew and CAP. If we can do that, play action could buy Cam some precious extra seconds in the pocket to find an open receiver. This won't happen, knowing Shula, but I would love to see us be very aggressive and send Philly and Ginn deep early and often, considering the sorry state of the Texans secondary.

well it is no secret I prefer to talk about the concerns....more interesting to me

I mean how many times can we say Luke is awesome?  Been there, done that and bought the jersey.

I got us 3-1 heading into the bye....is that super negative? I don't think so.  But unless you have us 4-0 then there have to be some losing matchups

DDifference between a negative and positive person right there.  There are positive and negative aspects of every game.

Dickson is a better blocker than him, which is why I was initially surprised they kept Swole Bones over Marcus Lucas, seeing how well Lucas played in the preseason. Hope to see him be able to contribute, at the very least in the red zone as a big body.

Yea those guys have had trouble staying on the field but they are all healthy now. Clowney has played, what three games? It would be premature to call him overhyped or anything. Maybe he lost a step, I dont know but using the health concerns of the past of now healthy players isn't doing much. While they may not end up being the best front 7 we play this year, their back end is also solid. Johnson is going to be a stud, Jackson is very good and while Joseph is getting to the tail end of his career, he is still better than any receiver we have that played substantial snaps last game. Funchess and Norwood may end up being good, but we have no idea yet.

That said, I still like our chances. I just hate how this board easily dismisses our opponents with little basis while getting butt hurt when other boards do the same to the Panthers. Texans are a very good team. They went 9-7 last year with no QB.

Clowney hasn't played 3 games, that was preseason and he played very little so really he had Sunday. He is still on a snap count Which on Sunday was 30 snaps. He will likely be on a snap count again this week so he might be in for half the snaps. Big whoop. Cushing took all 70 and did what?  6 tackles and 4 assists.  Thomas Davis had 7 and a sack in fewer snaps. Again healthy or not they are largely underwhelming.

as for their back end it isn't as good as ours and isn't everyone saying that our secondary is suspect. Exactly what does that make them?  Johnson only took 34  snaps on defense and another 15 on special teams. Jackson may be good but while he had 6 tackles he had no passes defended. I guess they never threw his way since he is such a shutdown guy.

No they aren't that great by any means and I am not dismissing them out of hand but the facts don't support that they are going to be that tough. Of their 9 wins last year 4 were against Jacksonville and Tennessee. Add in Washington, Oakland and Cleveland and 7 of their 9 wins were against the dregs of the NFL. They only had 2 quality wins against the Ravens and  the Bills and both of them were at home not on the road.
