Growl, what are your solutions for the WR position right now?

this argument is always amusing in the sense in that every time i or the many other posters who are starting to wake up list players, it's met with homer goggles and nonsensical ridicule about each and every option listed while blithering on about how great our guys are going to be. "DO YOU SEE A 24 YEAR OLD ELITE 1000 YARD ALL-PRO WHO DOESNT LIKE MONEY WANTING TO PLAY FOR US GROWL I MEAN COME ON MAN SHOW ME THOSE PLAYERS AND ILL CARE."

of course, said posters go into hiding when the games come and reality hits but i digress.

what is my solution now? There's a dwindling pool sadly, now, in the midst of the season.  What have been my solutions in recent months while the issue was noticeable and needed to be confronted? Well theyre off catching touchdowns for other teams.

of course, now that the season has started I'm going to root for our guys and believe in them and see what they have while hoping something happens which brings us to the point that if you had actually bothered to read the discussion i was engaged in you would have taken noticed that we were discussing league trends rather than trade/free agent wide receiever targets

While we're discussing this, it's important to note that teams are far less concerned in the modern NFL with finding an elite 1000 yard WR as they are with finding three to four 'good' players who can consistently create matchup advantages for the offense.

Its what makes the criticism against each and every draft prospect and free agent/trade target year in and year out so silly.

People here still live in a 90's mindset of "Is he going to be an elite WR for us?" when teams are more concerned with stockpiling the field with good players all around rather than one Michael Irvin on the perimeter. Of course, I love an elite WR as much as the next guy and if you get one it's gravy, but given a choice between one elite guy and three good ones *at that position* then i take the latter every time.

i think that you think amassing 1000 yards as the standard by which these players are supposed to reach says a lot about you as a poster. It certainly speaks as to why you perpetuate the 'nobody is out there!!!' argument in the face of options that are ineed better than what we have. It's a demonstrable logic fallacy that appears to be a root cause of a lot of the bad posts you make.

oh, and if you think I'm stupid enough to not notice that you willfully neglected to include things like players who dealt with injuries that kept them out of games or players on rosters who were deep at the position.

so not only did you cherry pick stats, you then tried to downplay what the stats showed you in two seperate capacities-one being by underscoring the value of what those players did, the other by only showing which statistics reinforced your imagined position.

poor form, mate.

Showing EVERY wide receiver picked in the 1st and 2nd rounds in the previous five years and their basic receiving stats (receptions, yards, TDs) is cherry picking?

Cool story bro.

And, yes, the "1000 yard receiver" is the standard upon which most receivers are judged, especially those who are supposed to be #1's.  Maybe you'd like to start a campaign to recognize the "500 yard receiver" so that it makes your argument less embarrassing.

Don't go away mad, brah.

Settle down, it was just a simple question.

I genuinely was curious to hear who you would go after right now. Obviously nobody knew early in the offseason that KB was going to end up injured, and out for the year.

You would probably find most people here would be receptive to your views if you weren't acting like such a douche nozzle all the time typing in all caps as if that's somehow achieving any sort of valid conversation.

You aren't a bad dude, just lighten up.

i think that may be exactly the point. The general populace here judges players exclusively on their fantasy numbers and their bioblast rather than any actual knowledge of said player's strengths and possible contribution here.

as for your second "point" i already mocked that a few posts up knowing the general cycle of predictability here.

i'm sarcastic here, but never angry. Most dry sarcastic comments are made in jest and then somebody feels ive insulted the team which i like as much as anyone here and it degrades into nonsense.

Stop saying nobody is available that could help, James Jones just scored two tds off the street. There are guys out there better than what we have.

With an organization and QB he is very familiar with.

James Jones first went to NYG where McAdoo, the former Packers QB, is the current OC.

As soon as he was cut, he was picked back up by Green Bay.

James Jones had no chance of coming to Carolina and to assume that he did shows that some folks have no clue wtf they're talking about and simply desire to bitch.

All of our Receivers are #1 Receivers on any team in the NFL FACT.....

Carolina Receivers have the best WR Coach in the History of the NFL FACT

Cam Newton is the Best QB in the History of the NFL FACT

With 3 Facts what is the big deal?

If I could justify buying All-Pro to my wife who already says I give the Huddle way too much of my time and talents,  I would make this my sig. It is like the anti-Chicken Little overreaction underreaction. Or maybe overreaction to over-underreaction...Anyway,  whatever it is,  it's awesome.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
