Norwood and Funch need to be a quick study

And? Without KB we have the worst receiving corps in the league and the receiver we drafted barely even got on the field so obviously he hasn't been showing the coaches much in practice. Multiple guys that report on the team have said Funch and Cam just can't seem to get on the same page. Not ready to declare him a bust by any means I'm just saying it's alarming.

Our situation at WR in general is "alarming".

I'm not terribly concerned about Funchess. Rivera, and the staff said all along that he would ease into the role. He's a rookie, who missed time in training camp, and most of preseason, and just played his first real NFL game. You're expecting him to be a bonafide #1, and Newton to be on the same page with him right out of the gate? If that's the case, you're just gonna have to lower your expectations. It's going to have to come with time obviously.

The thing we have to keep in mind for KB, because people are going to make comparisons with him to Funchess, is we without a doubt force fed Benjamin the ball from the jump, and just about never stopped. He was our #1 WR from the minute he set foot on the field in Spartanburg for training camp. Who else did we have? Funchess was never drafted with the intention that he would immediately become our #1.

Stop saying nobody is available that could help, James Jones just scored two tds off the street. There are guys out there better than what we have.

James Jones is intimately familiar with the GB offense and is well known to have great chemistry with A-rod - it would take him WEEKS to do the same here- I'd rather develop Funch

this is honestly a myth that people here keep perpetuating.

College offenses are producing better players across the board and wide receivers are comimg into the league as better and more polished players than they used to. Amari cooper runs better routes than a lot of longtime NFL players.

Last year's class was special in terms of talent. Their success was a result of that-not some magical wave of awesomeness descending from the skies and making them play good when they arent 'supposed' to.

So say it as many times as you like, but youll only be leading people astray from the truth. Young players dont need years or even months to make an impact anymore, and it isnt a special or rare occasion when it does happen. It's the expected standard.

No it's not a myth and we're not the ones perpetuating it.

Current and former coaches and players have said this for years because it's true. It's no where close to the expected standard but nice of you to tell NFL coaches what the standard is lol

No it's not crazy special when a top 5 pick blows up...that's why they are a top 5 pick...we are talking about an entire group. Young players will always need time to get acclimated to the speed of the game and get their bodies used to the NFL. A lot of it isn't about talent alone and the big rookie contracts of yore played into throwing players out there who weren't ready...and 1st round QBs will be put out there whether they are ready or not.

Fans aren't the ones who brought up the fact that last year was a special group...Gettleman himself stated as much...he wouldn't be saying that if it was the norm.

College offenses have been producing better players every year since forever...and yet we have 2 starting WR's who can't catch and out of the entire world only 19 of 32 QBs can actually throw a fuging football...right.

Not going to lie I'm getting a little nervous about Funch. I know he missed a lot of reps in the preseason, but I really expected more than this. GMan had him as a first round talent and we made a pretty big trade up to draft him and he can't even displace Corey Brown and Ted Ginn?

Our rookies sure weren't given much of a chance.

Funchess was given 26 snaps.  About half the snaps that Brown was given (54).

CAP saw the field for 4 plays and wasn't given the ball at all.

D-WIll saw one snap

Shaq saw 17 snaps, TD for comparison had 67.

This entire post is you sticking your fingers in your ears and screaming "NO NO NO I CANT HEAR YOU IM NOT LISTENING IM NOT LISTENING"

you deny it to your heart's content but the proof is in the pudding with the overwhelming success that rookies continue to have year in and year out.

No longer do players stay on the sidelines for two to three years to start their career. There's too much money at stake for the organization. That's a well documented reality of how the game's involving.

Ill grant that the QB position may be an exception to this now established rule because of the spread limiting how intellectually developed QBs are coming into the league-though if i told you whose going to change to accomodate that, you wouldn't like it (here's a hint: High school athletes are going to continue to develop athletically and colleges are going to capitalize on that and they arent going to worry about how those players fare after they leave their program) but lol at using our WR corp as an example  to your case.

This team is in the position it is in there by their own volition. Adding one body a year in spite of the many avenues available at what is numerically the the most needy position on the field is going to open you up to this possibility.

I really do feel bad for Cam. It's a shame the same problems continue every year

I don't feel bad for Cam, it's partly his fault. He sealed his fate when he signed that big fat contract. He doesn't have to be vocal publicly but there are things his people could do. That's why I honestly felt like he would play this season and see if the talent around him has gotten any better. He chose to stay on a team that treats their offense like the step child of the team. God I hope Funchess can come on strong by the end of the season, because we might need to draft a WR round 1 next year.

With the consensus best QB in the NFL throwing it to him.

In an offense he already knew like the back of his hand.

Seems like the team that CUT him didn't think he was good enough without Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay playbook.

But, yeah, you're right.  I'm sure he was going to step on to the Panthers roster and start churning out Pro Bowl stats.

To be fair, they went out and drafted KB and then Funchess, brought Ginn back, they had trust in Philly, and went and got Norwood. Now whether all of these acquisitions turn out to be good, lets not act like he's not trying. My opinion is he need to start bringing people aboard with an legitimate record

    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
    • Well, we got our answer on Army today.
    • Not a chance the SEC could compete with the NFL.  In the large cities that are not in the Southeast, (LA, NYC, Chicago, SF) College football is an afterthought.
