DeAndre Hopkins

Norman's potential payday is going to go up big time if he can limit Hopkins.  It's one thing to shut down Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns (although I am not taking anything away from how well Norman played overall yesterday), but Hopkins is looking like a top 10 receiver.  Even Hoyer was finding him in the midst of his mostly awful play, and Mallett continued to find him as well once he took over.  He had 9 catches for 98 yards and 2 TD's (plus a 2 pt conversion), and probably would have had more had the Texans had better QB play.

I'm not sure that Hopkins doesn't concern me more than JJ Watt at this point because I've already resigned myself to the fact he will probably get a couple sacks against us.  I think Josh can do a pretty good job against Hopkins, especially if we're not counting on Roman Harper as his help, but he is going to be a big challenge.

Tangentially related, Andrew Luck threw the ball 49 times yesterday and Andre Johnson had a HUGE 24 yards and zero touchdowns on 4 catches.

Watching the Colts-Bills highlights made me think of the Eagles Dream Team (i.e. 2015 Colts).  Amassing teams like that just never seems to work out as well as it looks on paper.  However, if Tyrod turns out to be a good QB, the Bills are going to be a great team.

Tangentially related also, I'm glad the Panthers played the AFC East Teams in the preseason b/c it gave them some good work against what look like to all be good teams.

Deandre Hopkins is about to hit the national scene big time. He already plays like a top 5 WR. Honestly not sure if we can contain him, I'm actually hoping our d-line steps up and just rattles Hoyer/Mallett because we have a better chance of that

Hopkins is looking like a great player, but don't underestimate Josh Norman's ability. He has shut Julio Jones down on multiple occasions.

In fantasy football this week, I'm faced with the decision of whether to start Hopkins against the Panthers...  I should have learned my lesson after I benched Steve Smith when he scored 20+ last year against us, but I feel like a bad fan if I start someone who's playing the Panthers.

pass rush has been huge in shutting down Julio.

The pass rush we saw yesterday? Norman can't stay with Hopkins consistently

Exactly...it's obvious that Ealy isn't a replacement for Hardy just yet(if ever) and we really miss that. Star should help up the middle but he doesn't bring all that much to the pass rush(and was replaced a lot on 3rd and longs for another DE when Hardy would go DT).

This defense really cannot get by on a weak pass rush...yes we ended up with a few sacks yesterday but 1 was from a LB blitz and the others were mostly from the last minute drive. We did have one clutch sack from CJ on a 3rd down when they were backed up. Maybe Addison has to start.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
