Norman Contract Talks Stall per Person

top dawg

If he wants to bet on himself, why not just sign a very incentive-laden contract. Would be great for both sides. If he balls out we have a shutdown corner, and he's making fair money. If not then he's got long-term security still and we have him at a fair price for whatever his play is like.

Interesting comparison.

Mind you, I think Norman is better than Marshall was, but you have a valid point.

Yeah I think Norman is way better than Marshall ever was as well, I was comparing more the situation.

You have a guy that has shown flashes, but apparently wants way more than the small sample size would allow you to pay him.

That honestly doesnt mean much, you could say that about every DB in the league outside of Desmond Trufant. Everyone else pretty much has a front 7 in front of them.

Let me rephrase--Norman is an opportunist whose big plays are often a result of the front 7 forcing the error on the part of the qb--not Norman making a big play.  Norman, in other words, is not the shut down cb he thinks he is because he cannot handle megatron in man without help over top.  Norman is a solid CB in our system, but by no means is he good without help.  While all CBs have front 7s in front of them, not many have OUR front 7 in front of them.

If you go back and look, Norman is often the benefactor of  a LB underneath and a S over top when he is on a top WR.  If he is not targeted, that has a lot to do with it.  Gettlemen would have paid Norman if he was being realistic about his value.  He is not bad, but simply not great.

No way a contract now works....

Norman's career thus far...

11 games inactive/didn't play

30 games of sub par/okay/ or holy smokes he is horrible CB play

7 games good/great play

considering his last 7 were great.....it just makes things too weird.  No way a franchise can pay him as the last 7 games CB even if they think that is what he now is

Love Norman and I hope we keep him long-term. I was really hoping we could sign him to a below market deal now. I'd easily do 4-28, or 5-35. It's worth the risk to sign a shutdown corner longterm.

Remember, Byron Maxwell got 6/63. That's ridiculous. I think Norman is better, especially considering the defense Maxwell played with. I just hope Norman wasn't asking for 5-50 or so. That would be ridiculous considering his track record.

Got a question I'm too lazy to look up:

Anyone know if there's anything in the NFL Concussion rules now about a limit to a player's concussions?  Josh has had 2 now... don't know if there's any rule about "X number of concussions and you're out of the league?"  I seem to recall reading somewhere that some players who've once had a concussion are prone to more...

I'll put it this way, put him on a team with an average secondary, he's pretty much average.

You do realize he played with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was as equally as good of a player with them... right?

There is more to being a quality DE than sacks, although Bennett is far from a slouch as a pass rusher.  He's a disruptive force in the run game and can play interior some as well.

To call him average is one of the most ridiculous things ever.

YOU CAN ALSO SAY THIS ABOUT EVERY DB IN THE LEAGUE.  I Understand the typical responses for reasons not to keep players around but you are also overrating our front 7 to down play Norman which is common around here. I will give you 2013 (when Norman didnt play much) but last year our front 7 took a dip till it got late in the season which WAS Normans break out year. He played well in games when our front 7 didnt. And please name a DB that handles Megatron without help? What kind of game plan is that for the best WR in the league in the first place? The highest paid DBs are not even put in that position on the field.

I think the matter should be looked at from the standpoint of last year Norman was a key player on D when we had issues and played up to his potential. Now he needs to do it for a full season to show his worth, if our front 7 plays up to 2013 then his value may be diminished but i am not riding on that myself. Rivera is already said they are worried about the pass rush so Norman will have plenty of opportunities to shine.

Far as your highlighted response, I understand your opinion but we will just agree to disagree that.
