Norman Contract Talks Stall per Person

top dawg

Norman is at his best when the front 7 is balling. He makes bone-headed decisions.  He wants to be paid like an elite player, but his play has not been consistently elite.

That honestly doesnt mean much, you could say that about every DB in the league outside of Desmond Trufant. Everyone else pretty much has a front 7 in front of them.

Mebane is the only one I'd put above average, just so.  Bennett, Avril are average.  Irvin may be below average.  Decent pass rusher, but brings nothing else to the defense.  Wright and Clemons, average.  They get sacks cuz the QB has to hold onto the ball so long.

edit: The only player listed that would start for our team is one of the DE's, probably Bennett, opposite CJ.  And that's only now because we're having to start Ealy since Hardy left.

Michael Bennett... is average?

Are you freakin' kidding me?

I'll put it this way, put him on a team with an average secondary, he's pretty much average.  Just my opinion.  Not one of those players that will ball out with a mediocre secondary like CJ, Peppers, Hardy.

he's never even had double digit sacks...as a DE...on that defense...

meh. I think the Seahawks have a great front 7, they have only gone downhill since winning the superbowl though. Id love to have a bruce irving or micheal bennett on our team. I think Dave will surly go DE in next years first round.

I see a D lineman of some sort - if Stars foot continues to plague him I wouldnt be at all suprised for G man to pick up another run stuffing DT.  Edwards and Cole are long in the tooth at 34 and 35 years old and may be playing their last year.

Those numbers are fantastic (well good if not fantastic) if you know what to look for.

The ints are maybe a little low, but he didnt start the whole season either.

Low numbers means that they are respected and no thrown at. I suspect he gave up low yardage numbers too.

That was my point, too many people see a lack of INT or PB as a sign of poor play. I think targets is the better metric when used j  the proper context. Then again, proper context is such a rarity these days.

I don't know that a franchise tag is a good scenario for me if I am him. If he is tagged, then when he hits the open market the following year he'll be 29 poised to turn 30 that year. It's going to be difficult to get a mega deal then.

if I am him, i consider signing the best deal possible with the team now and then leveraging for a pay raise after the season should he continue to play well.

Josh Norman turns 28 this season and has about 1/2 a season worth of elite play on his resume. The other 3 1/2 years were mediocre, and that's being nice.

I understand him wanting to get paid, at his age he's only got one shot at a big payday. I also understand the team not ready or willing to pay up.

He'll be the next Mike Michell. The Huddle is gonna freak out when DG doesn't give him the absurd contract some deparate team does, then he'll play like crap without an elite front 7.

Reminds me a lot of Richard Marshall.

Is the best deal on the table guaranteeing him 14M over the next two seasons?

If not, then you probably don't sign a long term deal in this scenario.  Either way, we have control of Norman for the next two/three years if we want.
