Yea i remember that from last year. But I don't want to see those kind of games this year. That was to close to call. I wheather see carolina up 2 scores with 5 mins left in the game. Some people like games like that. But right now carolina this year is going to have a ton of work ahead of them on D and offense. I just hope for the best for panthers this sunday.;)

People who say they remember that we were going to win or were more confident last year are full of it. This time last year Smitty was suspended, everyone was hoping Jake could even play, Williams hadn't done anything and the defense and offense didn't even like each other. We had a rookie right tackle, our right guard was a nobody and everyone was playing in a different position. Jarrett was a bust and had just had a DWI, Moose was considered over the hill, and Hackett was hurt already.

Pepper's had an awful 2007 with 2 1/2 sacks and we had a bust at the other end in Tyler Brayton. Our defense was starting a rookie at Free safety and Lewis was a backup who shouldn't be playing let alone start. Diggs and Davis were flipping positions which was an unknown and our secondary was supposed to be our strength other than Godfrey.

We were going against the potential Super bowl champs with backups, nobodys and a hurting quarterback. No one thought we would do anything and we were predicted to finish no better than 7-9.

Anyone who remembers anything else is engaging in revisionist history.

It's a great question, and leading up to the game last year there were quite a few parallels to how the Eagles game is shaping up:

-San Diego was a solid Super Bowl contender before the season started. Philly is in the mix this year again.

-Jake was coming off the surgery and there were many questions about his recovery. He showed the arm could come back last year. Jake posted the worst game of his career in a game that has to rate in the top 5 in importance to this franchise. Can Jake the Leader come back this year?

-San Diego had an RB who was capable of taking over the game. I think Williams is now a RB with that capability.

-The Panthers are an underdog again.

-The opening game is a tough contest that can go a long way towards setting the tone for the season.

The one thing that stands out about that game last year was the fact that Jake delivered the victory, in the final seconds, on the West Coast against a tough D.

Wow you really do think you know it all. You forget the way we played Washington the 3rd preseason game. The team had gelled by then and the defense was solid. This year you can tell the difference.

Thank you. I thought I was on acid or something and last year preseason didn't happen.

The "ultimate voice of reason" fits this comment. That's in the ballpark as far as my memory goes.

Yeah, I remember you and everyone else talking about how the team gelled.

Nailed it in the head. I'll admit that I was not very optimistic going into this game and even less so when the Chargers scored 14 points in the 4th quarter to take the lead. It reminded me of how many games our defense choked away in 2006 and I seriously thought we let another game slip away.

To say that I didn't go bonkos and yelled at the top of my lungs when we won that game would be a lie. Glad no one taped me embarrasing myself like that. ;)

all time classic. so WHY would you post this of you and your friends after your favorite team LOST?? :cryin:

Might want to change that friends to ex-friends. I've also heard it was staged but man, that's a pretty job of acting if that was true.

And VERY few people were predicting us to do better than 9-7. Most everyone thought we'd barely make the playoffs... Hell I caught a lot of poo for putting the Panthers at 5th after that game.

We sandwiched the Washington win between a loss to Philly and a loss to Pittsburgh where the starters didn't play. Matt Moore had just broken his leg and we had a backup quarterback, McCown was the second stringer and hadn't taken one snap.

Our offense did look good but other than Peppers looking solid, no one else on defense was outstanding. That third preseason game was as much about how poorly Washington played rather than how great we were. It was a glimpse of what was to come but no one really knew it then. I was the first to say that Williams looked very improved in training camp but who knows when they strap on the pads for real.

I know if I was a betting man, I would have bet on SD not the Panthers. It was considered a big upset at the time.

I was more confident about the team as a whole last year before game 1. I even predicted double digit wins for the first and only time on this board (10).

I was confident in our defense, but not in our offense.

I thought we'd start 2-2, but wasn't sure which games we'd drop.

I did not have high hopes of winning in SD, but I knew we had a puncher's chance. I have similar feelings about this game.

About as honest as I can get.
