D-will had more yards against the Pats last night (127) than our starters had combined in our dress rehearsal against the Pats in the first half (116)

We also have to look at the amount of carries he got last night and the running scheme.  I'm not surprised one bit he got over 100 yards rushing.  I don't believe his weight or freshness has a thing to do with it.  Give the man a fullback (remember Hoover) to block for him and twenty plus carries, of course he will go over a hundred.  It's the same with Stew as well.  Yet we don't have that type of system anymore and that is why D-Will kind of fell by the wayside in his latter years here, though he still had his good days.

Now the one thing I get tired of is how guys like DeAngelo go to a popular team, and now he's all of a sudden a superstar to the media.  Remember the treatment the media was giving to LaFail?  You would have thought that dude was a HOF if you listened to how much they were talking about him being a weapon for Brady.  Last night, Cris Collinsworth was gushing all over D-Will.  You would have thought the Panthers was the dumbest team in sports for releasing him.

I think Shula is awful  and has help making bad calls.

Not a big Shula fan either....I think we can do better than him (although he gets way too much blame around here for players not executing).   But the OP's attempt at trying to blame Shula for DLo being 15 pounds lighter now and running with a purpose (happens all the time when high priced divas are smacked back to reality after being cut) is laughable at best.

I don't know if I even agree about Williams not being motivated with us, but I certainly disagree about Smith. Steve Smith has always been one of the most highly motivated players in the league. He would have been motivated to outdo his opponent every play (including in practice) as a Panther. And he had a very good season last year.

89 always brings it.

Last year he bottled up probably more pure hate and anger wanted to show Gettlemen, Ron, Carolina.  He voiced it. He showed it.  The day after that game he looked to be the identical same WR he was here.

I don't think 89 ever took anything off or wasn't in the best condition he could be for his age....but he he channeled a special hate to get to that Carolina game and his play backs it IMO

i would certainly hope an entire offensive unit could outperform a long washed up RB.

imagine how much bell would have lapped shula's offensive firepower last night... holy poo!

I'm still not getting your point. Doesn't matter to me if it's one running back or a committee getting the yards

You must have missed the 2010 season when Clausen was throwing him the ball. Not that I blame him but he took most of that season off.

Football is a team sport.  An player's individual performance depends to a great extent on the performance of the offense around him.  A big part of Williams success last night was playing on a team that had a better and more talented offense than Williams has played with the last few years. Pitts offensive line was better than ours has been,  and their passing attack is certainly superior to ours with ours, with or without Benjamin.

On the other hand, Brady and company went thru Pitts defense like a hot knife thru butter.  Pitt's secondary looked really bad.  I don't know their draft history, and don't feel like looking it up, but I do wonder if they haven't drafted enough defensive players, or some of their picks haven't panned out.  Of course, Brady makes a lot of defenses look bad, but some of the receivers were so open, that I might have been able to get a few passing yards.

Did I read this right? He had more yards in 4 quarters than we had in 2 quarters?

Not quite.

You left off the fact that our game was in preseason.

Any direct comparison of stats between a preseason game and a regular season game without taking the difference into account doesn't really hold water.

(to be clear, that's not on you; I just used your post to make the point)

Motivation does things to people.  Especially when you know your career is on the line.

DWill knows that if he didn't come correct, he wouldn't get another carry after Week 2...and unless he repeats that next week...he probably still won't...

But with no big contract and no security blanket...he's has something to prove...

He had nothing to prove after signing that big deal in Carolina...he was comfortable...but he got his money and is set for life...he's playing with house money now...
