Don't understand how a guy averaging over 4.0 is trash, better yet how two guys who were getting paid regardless if they chose another team or not, decided to "collect a pay check". him and smith even in there final years played hard if you actually watched the games but i'm sure some of your in depth player analysis can prove me wrong.....it's funny that was the same excuse for smith but yet he's still playing hard, everyone we cut or doesn't sign back automatically gets motivation from being cut by DG, or maybe just maybe the guys we cut still have some juice left........nah can't be that.

Albert Haynesworth is an example of collecting a check not D will and Smith.....

Wah wah wah wah

when you people stop acting like a former player having a good game is somehow a big reveal into the way the team is being run maybe you'll be taken seriously.

Every idiot eagles fan in 2006: WHY DID THEY LET TERRELL OWENS WALK? THIS ORGANIZATION IS TERRIBLE.

Every idiot patriots fan in 2008: MANGINI JUST BEAT BELICHICK! IT'S A NEW DAY IN THE NFL BECAUSE ONE GAME MATTERS MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE. FIRE BELICHICK.

Every idiot panthers fan since forever: STEVE SMITH/DEANGELO/BRANDON LAFELL/JOHN FOX/MARTY HURNEY/THE WATERBOY LOOKS GOOD. THIS TEAM DOESNT KNOW HOW TO EVALUATE TALENT.

Not a single person except Deangelo haters have even mentioned that he shouldn't be cut. I'm a huge Deangelo fan and would rather have the cap space for Cam and Luke's contracts.

What people are arguing about are the dorks who are pretending that Deangelo sucked here and are shocked that he is a good RB elsewhere.

I agree, but that comment was more in response to the other threads. It really should have been in the thread about how many yards he had.

My bad.

I have a huge amount of respect for both Deangelo Williams and for Steve Smith. I recognize all the accomplishments that they had for the Panthers, and also acknowledge that they were two of the best players we've had on the team.

What I don't much care for is people that bad mouth the Panthers organization on their way out the door.

Steve Smith and Deangelo Williams were unfortunately by-products of an era of Panthers football where past accomplishments were rewarded with enormous contracts and over-extended loyalty. When DG came in and did the job of an actual GM and they were shown the door, some fans here take up for the players as if they actually know them and like it's their duty to stick up for them. Therefore, people like me get branded as "haters" for voicing an opinion that's contrary.

I've never bad mouthed Peppers. When he left he didn't poo all over the Panthers because he felt slighted in someway. He's a professional, and maintained his professionalism when he went to Chicago.

I could go on and on but I think you get the gist of my point. I don't respond well to people who play with no passion until they are shown the door, then poo on the Panthers, then use some perceived slight from this team to motivate them to perform well somewhere else. It seems very petty to me, and I cheer for the name on the front of the jersey, not the back.

With all due respect, of course. :)

Interesting about Peppers. Julius was an introvert and never said a word about anything but his actions sure spoke volumes to me.

Turned down the contract Hurney offered him that at the time would have made him the highest paid Defensive player in the League.

Anyway, this was followed by consecutive years where he was Franchise Tagged by the Panthers. Each year Peppers refused to sign the FT contract until well into July completely hand cuffing the front office from making any moves. His play on the field was poor and his effort very inconsistent. I believe to this day that the combination of Hurney locking up 37 million cap dollars to a Defensive End that didn't apparently want to be here cost us 2 seasons where we might otherwise have been more competitive had that 37 million gone to players who should have been wearing a Panther uniform.

Julius I was happy to see go and to receive the 3rd round compensatory for him.

what's the end game of all this anyway

the way i see it you're either trying to make some kind of labored point about this organization's ability to evaluate talent or you feel some kind of burning desire to defend a millionaire pro football player from his "haters" on the internet.  k have fun with that.

if that's your definition of "dogging" it is getting injured, cool by all means go and convince the world that, if you believe d will magically found motivation this offseason and had none after his mom passed, I've got some air i'd like to sell you, premium quality stuff.

i guess every player that leaves here finds this magical motivation, or has been dogging it, lafell,smith,hardy?,peppers....list goes on

believe what you want no one is twisting you arm

No. Not really. It doesn't. Two of those three were way overrated and overpriced and we are just fine without and the third turned out to be an unreliable head case that we couldn't afford anyway.

curious as to who was overrated and priced? btw i wasn't for keeping 2 on this list

and the list grows, it's not my point that we should have kept these guys just find it ridiculous some act like players can't have better careers outside of Carolina, like we don't cut or not resign good players

The definition of "dogging" it would be not talking to reporters all season for at the time was for reasons unknown, gaining fifteen pounds, and going down at first contact when he ran. All the while contriving what was, according to Jeremy, a "fake" personality on social media.

Then, upon getting word that you are going to be released, airing your grievances in an interview because the team was too busy to go to your mom's funeral in a move so awful the NBC Charlotte affiliate that ran it brings on STEVE SMITH, who had just finished incinerating the bridges with the franchise that season, and he looked like the good guy, talking about how great Mr. Richardson was and all.

There's a reason the number of our "greatest running back ever" was re-issued immediately. It's not like we WANT to hate on the guy. He earned it.
