Darin Gantt @daringantt 45m45 minutes ago

If the guy with 200 tackles played on a better defense, they'd have gotten off the field sooner and he wouldn't have that many. #peeve

I don't know much about Darin Gantt.  Why the Luke hate?  Did he perhaps rag on us for drafting him and hates to have been proven wrong?  Pure speculation on my part.  It's just hard to fathom...

And for those who are saying that Luke gets so many tackles because our offense stinks and can't stay on the field, how is that true given that we typically play ball control and go for long time of possession?

2014:  we were 2nd in the league in time of possession

2013: we were 4th

2012 we *were* below average at 19th.

Darin Gantt is the absolute worst. He is a whiny little SOB and I hope he gets buttraped by ISIS. Is that too much?

Have we not been a top 10 defense the last three seasons?  How does that equate to not being able to get off the field.  Maybe thats why his sorry ass got canned.

He just found out the hard way that when you bite the hand that feeds you, it tends to bite you in the end.

the Panthers flexed, the paper tucked tail and embarrassed him by making him cover women's collegiate volleyball.

I'd like to see that also ...**cough** Kb_fan **cough** See if you can put some numbers together for a few us here.

Sorry, I'll let someone else have the pleasure.   I've entered a pretty busy work stretch now - big proposals and reports due in both October and November.  Also, I will have my hands full with plans to keep the weekly side-by-side gamebook stats posted, and to follow up further on a few ongoing Panthers stats analyses I'd begun:

  • roster comparisons year by year  (age, experience, performance, continuity...)
  • % rookies / % veterans and winning - what formula has historically worked for the Panthers & other teams?
  • and now today's fun data on low sacks allowed = key ingredient in a winning season most of the time

Also, I really don't follow the financial side of football too closely re: salary cap and contracts, etc.  I've begun to learn a bit about it because it obviously influences the composition of the roster, and how players are chosen, which is something that really interests me, but I don't really understand NFL salary structure much.

    • I suspect that schematically with darnold it was just too much out of the gate. Darnold was a multi sport athlete all through high school and just didn’t have a lot of reps coming into the nfl. Most QBs these days are going to summer qb camps in middle school. Darnold was closer to the old school qb who’s just the best athlete around and plays a ton of other sports. I think that’s really one of the most under appreciated factors that have led to an improvement in qb play; these guys are doing this as a full time job from the age of like 13. Obviously the jets were a horrible situation, and he came right into a worse one. And then CMC got hurt. In an ideal world, darnold would have been the guy that sat for a year or so but the current nfl is what it is.  when they brought in mayfield Rhule did this fuged up college style “every position is an open competition” and split reps in training camp. That is not fuging what you do in the nfl. Mayfield was coming off injury on a team that was falling apart and they just needed to make him the starter right away.  I suspect there was some division in the building and were some darnold advocates and they were obviously right. I think at the end of the day Rhule was just an idiot and a charlatan and I say that as someone who was initially excited about the hire. I fully admit I was wrong about that.  The panthers absolutely should have just rolled with darnold and Wilks in 2023 but that’s a dead horse.  darnold did exactly what he needed to do in 2023; sat on the bench, got his head straight, and now he’s thriving. I honestly would not hate us going start him for 2025.  mayfield I think is a pure vibes qb. He got healthy, got into a good situation, and is thriving. He was never going to be a good Mcadoo qb. When he was in NY it was widely reported he ran the most complex offense in the nfl. Lots of read routes that relied on the qb and wr being on the exact same page, and it’s really a feather in Eli’s cap he was able to do well under it. mayfield is not a smart guy, I don’t know what else to say. He cheated in his wife with a girl he met on tinder in Cheesecake Factory parking lot.  he’s got the juice though, and you just let him play football and he thrives. That’s what they’re doing with him in Tampa. Also he has to get sacked and injured every game before he starts playing well.  so in conclusion… darnold: needed to sit, should have been resigned, thriving.  mayfield: needed to get healthy, needed vibes, needed a dumbed down playbook.
    • That's because at this point, we have no choice. Sunk cost in this case is due to a failure of due diligence. There were many red flags pre draft, but by that time the infatuation and emotionalism had taken hold. Again, there is no hate. Its been painfully obvious to those who were paying attention. As of now, we are in a crap cycle of time and resource wasting. It's all CYA from the pro Bryce contingent, hoping he can somehow manage to live up to the hype.
    • That's the difference maker. Even the Broncos dumped Wilson but the Browns are stuck and the Jets still owe dummy 63 mil after '25 in dead money over 4 years.
