Kuechly, Panthers agree to 5-year, $62M extension

not doubting you, but where did you get that info from? i know they picked up his option, but does this extension not include this year and next year?

Granted it's not official, but the wording implies it's added onto his current deal. Hence, "extension." Had the deal nullified his remaining rookie deal it'd be referred to as a "renegotiated contract."

Again, not official, but that's the difference.

There is no "hard ball" and this isn't at all some assurance of a super bowl, good grief people. And the greatest summer a GM ever had? Hyperbole much, my gosh! "Will be the greatest LB to ever play the game". It never ends.

What this is...

getting our VERY LIKELY first HOF player locked on our team without having to worry about this or that. Now we can form the pieces around him.

Is he worth the contract? Absolutely. I don't like paying this much, but like I said, HOF player. He's young, he elevates our squad quality, we need him. Here's hoping Luke retires a Panther, it's truly awesome having him around.

Incredible how young he is.... this is pretty darn amazing, and very exciting for the Panthers.

After the recent years of Cap hell, giving this kind of contract IS a bit scary... will be we able to play our other great players when their contracts come up?  We've been laughing at Seattle and how they no longer can play all their key players.  I imagine some are laughing at us for paying this kind of money to Cam & Luke.  But seriously, I trust Gettleman to be able to handle this.  He's been pinching every penny to make this happen and he's done great things in the past 3 years to stabilize our cap situation and get us in the black.

And I can't wait til Cam & Luke are hoisting that superbowl trophy SOON at Bank of America stadium.  It really IS gonna happen the way this team is moving forward.

Just curious...did anyone think this deal wouldn't get done? Does this deal make him a better player?

I think he was gonna play lights out no matter the status of his contract. Yes it's better for our peace of mind, but the team is in the exact same spot it was in yesterday,  is it not?

For the record, I would literally break down and cry like a 2 month old baby if Kuechly ever left Carolina. I just believe he is giving his best effort as a professional already, and throwing a few $$ at him won't improve his play, IMO.
